Thanks!  I’ll have to check it out.

What is that from?

18 and 19. Technically teens, but not the 14 y.o. that comes to mind.

Several of the group are apparently known gang members, including the father of one of them. “I learned it from you, dad”!  I doubt they’re so desperate that they “need” to rob.

Her “apology” is an attempt to get her 15 minutes of fame.

What’s really messed up is that “stealing” a $20 (back then) videotape would be a felony.

If I were to have a last meal, baba ghanouj with some good pita bread would be part of it. I’d add ezme and ajvar to your list. I’ve never had mouhamara but it sounds amazing.

Sounds like the guy was “connected”.

That reminds me of being at an all day concert in the middle of nowhere 30 years ago. Steppenwolf was one of the bands, and their singer at one point was saying “back in the 60s, people cared, man, and we need to get that spirit back, man...”. All around me the crowd was saying “shut up!” and “just play!”.

Our cat is about 19 and still doing pretty well, though all she does now is sleep and eat. When her time comes, I’ll know she had a cushy life after having been semi-feral when we got her 18 (!) years ago. And, that will mean another cat that needs a home will get one. I come to SNS each week for the Shelter Cat

I haven’t voted for a republican in the last 25+ years, unless you’re talking about a town election.

In the age of telecommuting, many of these jobs should be shipped off to cities that could use an influx of educated people.

Because that makes too much sense (or, would be like making Guam part of North Dakota, or something.). That, and not giving them their own senators is somehow disenfranchising.

That the industry of DC is government is the problem. Lobbyists and other grifters make big bucks.

It makes no sense for a ~ 75 square mile urban area, with little in the way of industry, agriculture, or natural resources, to be given statehood.

Maybe I should have said “add it back to Maryland.”

So add it to Maryland. People in DC get representation, Maryland gets more Representatives, and Republicans can’t claim this is a Senate grab.

Well, I shouldn’t have mentioned Gawker, since was gone before the new owners took over. And as you note, Splinter had its issues, but it still seemed to have an active comments section when it was shuttered.

Upthread, Dead Elvis posted that Maria Sherman (who did the contest) was laid off.

And where’s March Madness?!  It’s been like four years (I think).
