I was born there also, but left when I was young. Visited many times over the years, the family even moved back for a year when I was a teenager. Much later, I took a job that required me to spend a few weeks a year there.

I’m guessing that the leaders of the company give their lobbying people a list of issues that they feel are important, and say “contribute to people/orgs that support these.” I doubt the CEO gets involved with deciding each individual person/org that gets a contribution.

Am I missing something? SCOTUS’ logic in rolling back Roe was that abortion is a state-level issue, not a federal one. If Congress passes a federal law guaranteeing abortion rights, won’t SCOTUS strike it down using the same logic?

I think that the people who are pushing us to vote want to build a movement that is big enough to overcome all of that. It’s going to be difficult, but right now, it’s the only game in town.

US citizens living abroad still have to pay US taxes on their worldwide income. You do get to deduct any foreign income tax paid. This is you stop rich Americans from avoiding taxes by living abroad in a country with lower tax rates.

If I donate money to an abortion organization, I don’t have the luxury of being ideological about it. What I want to know is how many abortions per, say, $1,000 in donations do they provide. Are you saying that Planned Parenthood is worse that local organizations in that respect?
