Mercedes seems to be the only maker now that user “4-Door Coupe”. BMW uses “Gran Coupe”. Audi and Porsche stick to “Sedan” for the A7 and Panamera. Mercedes was the first maker with the CLS and in essence they coined that phrase, so I can see why others don’t want to be followers in the use of the name. Even VW…
Because the CLS53, though an AMG is going to drive a bit more relaxed than the AMG GT 4D. Recent reviews of the CLS53 have discovered that. Also, I think if they had just offered 63 and 63S versions of the AMG GT 4D, then its sales would be limited and not worth the investment.
Absolutely stunning. Much, much better than the new CLS. Surprised they are offering the same engine from the CLS53 AMG here, too. But that interior is incredible - very glad they gave it the AMG-GT-spice with the center console. I’m sure the styling will be controversial for many, but I love its aggressive stance…
Completely disagree. The BMW is the same ole same ole, a trite design approach. At least Mercedes looks like it’s moving forward.
Well, shit. Give me a steering wheel, pedal for acceleration and brake, manual gearshift w/clutch, and AC/heater, all with a robust engine, solid suspension, and decent wheel/tires combo. Put a mount on the dashboard where I can open an app to tell me my speed. I’ll listen to music from my smartphone. The car will…
My cat will just sleep on your neck.
So....BMW is charging tons more for the M6 Gran Coupe replacement. That’s all.
Sorry, I didn’t realize that posted. I started typing a response then got distracted and meant to hit cancel, not publish. Anyway. Yes, to some degree I agree with you that the highest-priced Maybach competes with the lowest-priced Flying Spur. But I think that’s where it ends since the price of the Flying Spur…
No
Well, if you can’t beat them out in the streets, on a track, on the sales charts, in brand image, in innovation, or, really, anything else, you may as well beat the Germans in Consumer Reports!!!!!
Again, I’d have to disagree regarding the Chinese market. While Chinese tastes lean towards peculiar, LWB models of “regular” sedans are insanely popular, premium or not. The M-Maybach trim level fits perfectly into that paradigm.
The interior looks incredible. However, I will throw caution to the wind since fancy lighting and strategic shadows might be fooling our senses. The exterior is really not too special. Looks like a Lexus IS sexed it up with a Subaru, then added a threesome with a Passat. Not exactly enthralling.
But the point of Mercedes correcting is the point that seems to be lost on the author. Was it over-correcting? That’s arguable. As prestigious as Mercedes-Benz is, Bentley and Rolls Royce are just on a whole other level with the uber rich. Should Mercedes have taken Maybach (without the Mercedes name) and created…
Your lack of knowledge and understanding of Mercedes’ history is pretty astonishing. I’m reading your article and shaking my head, and all I can think is, “Where the f*ck has she been”.
Mariah Carey: “I wish people would move past my bad NYE singing fiasco”
Nah. He’s black. They won’t mess.
Well, there’s a turnaround for you. Not Angry Birds this time, but Angry Idiot.
The replacement CLA has been caught testing as has the new A-Class sedan. I believe we’re getting both in the US, just not the hatch. I can see them doing a mid-AMG (ala the AMG 43s) for the sedan, then the full-blown AMG (ala AMG 63s) for the CLA. Unless they are planning some sort of AMG 53-like variant with an…
