What, no trees from the NW on the list, land of evergreens ? Certainly Portland's fir, at 75 ft and 15,000 LEDs fits in the midst of these specs.

Haven't done this myself, but highly recommend reading the post under the instructions regarding correcting for the impedance mismatch you get by wiring this directly as in the original instructions.

@ImperfectLink: The Charles Shaw wines are their famous "$3 wine". I tried their syrah and it was at least drinkable, which I guess is hard to argue at that price. :)

How long before this makes someone turn into a shady neighborhood and gets them mugged? :)

"These folks, after all, are merely doing what we, the American traveling public, have permitted and now expect them to do"

Bah, he forgot the all-important shiny factor!

I wait until I've got a good lineup of stuff I actually want to watch, start up my account for a month or two, watch ~2-3 dvds a week (plus some instant streaming), and then put my account on hold. I cycle from that back to books and/or video games for a few months. Works pretty well, and I don't tend to sit on stuff

@HeartBurnKid: Agent of R.O.A.C.H.: Depends on the variety, my roommate used to like the ones that are like dried potato flakes, and they actually come out pretty well (unless you happen to be a fan of chunky mashed potatoes, which I am not).

I would have much rather they skipped the promo and not jacked their prices by .20 yesterday. Tea lemonades were painfully priced before, now they are truly ridiculous, especially since they use cheap lemonade but charge a buck more than a tea.

Plants vs Zombies (HD) for the ipad is $10, not $3. The touch/iphone version is $3.

@bob_d: If the exposure is that far off, you won't get a proper image. It would be corrected quickly, and the maximum setting, based on the discussion in that article, would likely be .01 mrem. This as opposed to 1 mrem per 3 hours of air time.

@lledra: The wikipedia article on backscatter machines gives a good summary of the standards for use along with alternate arguements:

I would much rather just have a lightweight music player that allows me to more simply sync music and apps with my idevices. That's it.

Maybe it's just me, but I found the hawking impression was pretty lousy and forced.

@purplegreendave: That's fairly easy... don't get wasted. Seriously, it's not worth it. If you're worried about the social impact, just quietly let the waitress know ahead of time to switch to virgin drinks after the first few. Many good business negotiators use this trick.

"Once you're asleep, though, alcohol's interaction with your brain can lead to some fitful sleep"

@stitchjones: That's why I play XBL games in private parties with 20 and 30-something friends who only drop F-bombs every 5 seconds.

@pandaSmore: Depends on the individual, it bothers some people. Also, I've never tried it myself, but like I mentioned I've seen recipes for pastes including lemon juice that are supposed to work well. Theoretically depending on the combination it should ease any irritation.

@classenmindy: In addition to raw plants - stews, soups, chili, roasts, pasta, paialla, stir fry, etc can all be made for less money per serving than fast food, with as much or as little caloric content as you desire (cream, animal fat, butter, etc if you want to beef up the fat content, in addition to complex carbs
