I can tell you what would probably happen here (in Germany). They would look into the person’s state (sleep, alcohol, whatever), but also into the company. Did the person have enough time to rest the night before? Did they get their breaks? There was a briefing, great. Was the “15 foot zone” delineated with anything?

Thats a really naive way of looking at safety. Blame the victim. Safety systems should always assume we’re distracted and inattentive because we ALL have moments like this and NOBODY deserves to die because of it.

If we leave it at ‘it was the victim’s fault, case closed’ then nothing improves and someone else WILL

I cannot imagine being the crew (flight or ground) and witnessing that. Were it me, I don’t think I would be able to work in the industry anymore...

During my stint in the Navy I was a technician for an aircraft called affectionately “The Hoover” (a S3 Viking) it had two very large Pratt and Whitney engines attached to it that had the same safe distance.

Not “he”.

I feel like you’ve shifted away from what the Atlantic article that Ethan linked to was saying to criticism of the Federal Reserve in the abstract. I’m not saying that the Fed can’t be criticized (that’s why I clicked Ethan’s link; I wanted to read a comprehensive criticism). I’m definitely not saying that you

Once again, the current crop of Kotaku writers show that they’re not really qualified to comment of economic/business or law-related issues.

But that rich people don’t suffer at all is a function of both political parties’ unwillingness to raise taxes on the wealthy to fund social safety net programs that could help ease the pains of a recession, or even pass any legislation that so much as inconveniences the rich. There are two entirely separate sets of legislation.

It’s a libertarian/small government dog whistle that insists government has “run amok” and isn’t accountable. In this specific case, it’s so transparently a dog whistle because one of the hallmark features of the Federal Reserve is its independence from the executive branch and the political parties. It lets the

Exactly!

The only thing that would be worse than the Fed being run by "unelected officials" is if it was run by elected officials

Agreed, but I actually want to focus on the claim that this recession is being manufactured by the Federal Reserve, because it’s not completely wrong. The Fed is raising interest rates, which will cause a recession, and hopefully lower inflation.

That is a very good movie and performance. He’s also good in Lost City of Z (where he appears to be playing...John Lennon?), High Life, and several other movies...he was even enjoyably absurd in The King.  he’s paid his dues but...there are other actors out there.  That said, better him than Aaron

youre asking the wrong question. You should be wondering how long the US military has had walking trees and why we were kept from knowing.

Maybe talking to the manager will help. Have you tried that?

Collect your 200 rubles vatnik. You aren’t American or a single mother. Our help to Ukraine against Russia’s barbaric and criminal invasion is justified and not hurting anyone’s finances in the US.

Trivializing Jan 6th is bad, and made worse by doing it on a day the president is giving posthumous awards to people defending democracy against that insurrection, and it’s not like we’re done with political violence in this country, for instance: “Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, say the homes or businesses of four

What a stupid headline.
