A great adaptation takes what works in the books, throws out everything else, and expands on what it uses so masterfully that when you reread the book, you miss the scenes from the movie.

The ending part with the presidential candidates and the talking cat all speaking at the same time…it reminded me of that TV Funhouse 'Fun With Real Audio' with Bill Clinton giving a State of the Union address and Ross Perot, Bob Dole, and a giant screeching bunny rabbit interrupt him.
