Indeed. It’s a very lazy trope that has been allowed to go on for far too long. Black Widow is probably the ne plus ultra of this trope. (though Rey is a close second.)

Heck of a way to tell her husband she doesn’t want to do another Quiet Place sequel...
Yikes. Not a Leno fan, but am a burn victim, and can say for sure: wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
I don’t see how she’s wrong. She’s obviously talking about the Strong Female Lead(tm), not powerful women in the abstract.
“Sherlock Holmes gets to be brilliant, solitary, abrasive, Bohemian, whimsical, brave, sad, manipulative, neurotic, vain, untidy, fastidious, artistic, courteous, rude, a polymath genius.
Female characters get to be Strong.” - Sophia McDougall
I agree with her. Give me more female characters that are stinky, ugly, ratchet, feral people. More Charlize Theron in Young Adult. Give me a woman protagonist as fucked up as the main character in Disco Elysium.
Not the celebrity roast I was hoping for.

I find it funny that every time a concept like this gets killed, everyone assumes the script was great and it must have been politics. Then, when a movie is actually made and its like “Disney is filming a new Pirates move” the consensus is usually “what a pathetic cash grab, this movie will suck.”
The world needs a Grace O’ Malley and or *Anne Bonney movie.
Hope this guy has an ominous AirBNB to check up on
The Olympic committee is saying, “hold my beer.”
Civilized people should have nothing to do with the barbaric theocracies of the Middle East.
You think the NFL sucks and then FIFA just runs away with the title of most disgusting pro sports organization in the world.
FIFA doesn’t care if slaves built those stadiums or if women will be treated like shit or that homosexuals get executed in Qatar. As long as the money is flowing those assholes are happy
Growing up with Spielberg as a contemporary director I have to admit I did take him for granted at times, although many indelible films I’ve kept in my mind all these years are from his talent. You think of the range of genres he has tackled over the years, from the deep dramas, to blockbuster action, musicals, SciFi,…
It’s almost as if he’s decided that he doesn’t care all that much about the box office any more (in fairness he’s more than proved himself there) and just wants to make films that interest him, even if nobody else comes along for the ride.
A lot of his recent output is set for peak re-evaluation in a few years. Except…
The cycle of being a film fan: “Spielberg is great!” to “Spielberg is overrated blockbuster sentimentality, I only watch art films” to “Spielberg is a talented director”
I suspect that the trailer is making this look like a really different movie in a way that does it a disservice. Because it looks super saccharine, but the reviews are not only glowing, but suggest a far more interesting story.
Of the half dozen films coming out this season about moviemaking this is the one I’m most interested in
