There’s a flip side to that coin - habituation, or what you might think of as boiled frog syndrome. Because nuclear was new and scary sounding, and arrived in a time when that was enough to create a significant backlash, and because the potential for shit going wrong was big and spectacular (and played into fears that…
A ton of the cost and time related to nuclear is the regulatory rather than necessary. National governments could step in and shorten that a ton. Putting solar on new builds is just as much of a band aid as anything, and large scale storage is still a long way off.
It’s not backup, it’s base load. Municipal-scale storage of wind and solar-generated power for times when it’s still and dark is science fiction right now, and inconsistent power load on the grid will fry it. If nuclear is Boomer tech then I don’t know what you call coal and natural gas, because those are your…
Yes, it’s possible that a higher capacity charger would require a service upgrade to your home. But most residential EV scenarios involve overnight charging (longer charge time means a smaller instantaneous power requirement), so the need for fast charging at home won’t be as critical in most cases. That said: I don’t…
Unlikely, unless you want L3 charging capability at home. L2 charging (208-240 volts, 40 amps) is probably more than enough for charging at home; which would be overnight charging most of the time. Level 2 will give you about 32 miles of range per hour of charge.
“Love makes you do crazy things” - every man who’s ever physically abused a woman.
The thing is most people that are on a road trip will usually stop charging at 80% anyway. Because of the way that charging tapers dramatically at the end of a fast charge cycle, that last 80% takes a relatively long time compared to the first 80%.
The normalization of this is twisted and insane.
Actually, even small and mostly rural areas like Yucca Mountain have enough clout to block waste storage, and most of it is just stored on site at the plants.
In both scenarios you listed, install a charger, then have it be pay-to-charge, not unlike public charging. The charging rate will pay for the charger install and the electricity used.
I agree. They should at least be required on any new builds.
The insurance company doesn’t work for you, it works for shareholders. You’re screwed.
I think the bigger looming issue is student loan debt. Borrowers have enjoyed 0% interest and deferred minimum payments for 2+ years. Of those borrowers, how many have continued to pay their loans, hoping to get ahead? How many have splurged on needless other items assuming the windfall is going to last forever? I…
I love how Antifa has become this shadowy cabal of agents that is highly organized and subversive but it can be literally anyone. Also I love how Anti-Fascists is somehow the bad guys for the freedom crowd? Oh those darn people who hate fascism ruining my freedom parade...
I am so tired of dumbfucks like these and their constant abuse of and over-use of terms like “Freedom”, “Patriots” as well as their constant use of the American flag for their idiotic and whiney, made-up grievances. Its like none of these people ever grew up and act like they are 11 years old. Meanwhile, people in the…
Outside of Portland and SF, does antifa even exist?
On the other hand, most people are against facism. Which means...
We’re everywhere.
Ask one of those engineers how they feel about removing a ‘redundant’ safety system from a device that directly impacts the health and safety not only of the user but the people in the immediate vicinity.
Just ask.
We are of the same mind.
lol, just typical tech baron shit. I appreciate Tesla for all its done in mainstreaming EVs and building a car company from scratch. Truly impressive feats. However, as someone who will most certainly by an EV here in the next few years i wouldnt ever consider buying one from Tesla.
