The transmission which is a Miata 5-speed driving the rear wheels, and then the foot wells and support equipment like brake and clutch masters, throttle linkage, etc.  Since you are basically sitting on the floor your feet go almost straight out, so there’s not as much “hood” as you think.

A Morgan 3-wheeler. I guess it’s the same desire for open-air fun that draws people to motorcycles, but man this looks better! However I cannot justify spending family car money on a mid-life crisis toy, and since they really don’t depreciate, a used one is not really an option, and now they are no more due to

Someone’s level of risk avoidance is their own to decide though. Arguing the chances of severe response don’t provide much comfort if I have to see my kid on a ventilator because he won the genetic lottery, or am trying to console a friend’s kid who is.

To play devil’s advocate I don’t trust the general “maskless” public either. That they are vaccinated, or that they are taking any precautions to protect anyone who is not or cannot be.

Well I guess in the current market if you are worried now is the time to trade in as even the recalled Bolt prices are high right now.

I think it’s more like he expected to be able to get the regulator and replace it himself.  He was surprised they didn’t carry repair parts for the alternator.  I’d be someone does, but you are right, that is not going to be a chain auto parts store.

Most things diesel seem to be expensive if you can’t find a work around.  Cummins parts are like gold unless you can find one made for a Dodge or some other company that uses their engines.

Way it looks to me is they get sunk just like drywall screws today, however instead of pulling the drywall tight to the stud, it’s now attached to that washer under the head which floats on the spring and sits proud of the wall, basically making the sheet float.  I’d be curious to see how well that whole process works.

Yes, the (final year) 61 Desoto had basically the same dash, just with the Desoto name and a little more bling.  Luckily it’s easier to find interior parts for the 880.

  • It has individual intakes for each cylinder.

First Gear: There’s a lot of purchases I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on right now.

It depends on the situation, it’s not inherently bad to go in while parked at the pump, but if there are cars waiting behind you because all the pumps are full then other than paying it’s rude to then go inside to shop when you could just as easily move your vehicle to a parking space and do that, letting someone else

All the underlying technology is pretty well understood, so really the issue going forward is if this design lives well outside of the development and test offices.  How the object should be manufactured and used is not the same thing as how it WILL be manufactured and used.

Oh, you had feet?!

I think this shows how hard the EV market is right now though. The pace of change in EVs is fast enough that a normal vehicle product cycle can mean a huge gap in capability. We really haven’t seen this in automobiles in at least 50 years. This is probably why Tesla refuses to make model years, they’re too static for

Fair enough, Tesla had the roadster at first too. I do wonder what compromises have to be made though.

Agreed, but that’s my point I guess, often clips are not designed around repairability, if the clips on one car are better it’s often just because they were designed to be stronger/tighter to reduce squeaks and rattles, instead of to support removal and replacement.

The iPace would have been my pick as EV I’d most like to own. The Mach-e might top that now, but that’s at least partly because the price point is more palatable for what it offers. Though I wouldn’t spend average new car money on any EV personally as they just aren’t up to “family road trip” vehicle standards right

I don’t think he has a major issue with fasteners overall, just that he doesn’t like when they are the default method to join any two things, which is fair enough.

To be fair I’m more likely to get the right replacement part at Home Depot than the local auto parts store!
