That power was always there, it’s just that now we have global news media and the big (read: interesting/imporant) stuff happens there. If anything the fact that everyone is paying attention means we’re less likely to let those representatives get away with the crap they wouldn’t have heard before every move they

To some extent, but centralized bureaucracies also get far more scrutiny and push directly against organizations opposite that point of view, hence the “centralized”. Google fights for net neutrality against Verizon in DC, while in your local city Google doesn’t give a crap when your local cable company buys

The EU is a centralized bureaucracy which does not care about the people far away from Brussels its edicts impact, usually negatively.

After the VW diesel problems, and considering they are just now clearing up the issue they had with the EPA over diesel emissions, it’s not surprising that this isn’t going to be a fast or simple process any more, add in the shutdown and I’d buy this taking longer than expected.

Right, the timing cover is cast and the hole was drilled through vice drilled blind, why is anyone’s guess; limitations to the manufacturing process, saves half a penny, aid alignment, prevent trapped air like drones mentioned, or all of the above.

Durability is a big one, a MT is a much simpler component and therefore usually more likely to last the 300k+ miles that the Cummins were known to do. They were more efficient, and better for engine braking, though much of this has been lost to the better gearing and more advanced programming of modern automatics.

Because people want to be able to access the camera from their phones anywhere, and have recordings of incidents at a minimum, and like the article discusses that either requires you to host those services on your own or let the company do that for you, and like with email we usually take convenience over security.

You are missing just how much extra crap we’re packing into vehicles today. My 61 Desoto and 2005 Magnum weight almost the same amount (yes the LX cars are fat and heavy cars to begin with) and have similar power ratings (though the Desoto doesn’t have the original motor), but for that weight you get a LOT:

Clubs can come in handy for that stuff too. Had a guy loan me a special tool for rebuilding my transfer case, i just had to pay the shipping back and forth, I’ve done the same with a few I bought/built as well. I also managed to sell off a Cummins seal installer tool for enough that it basically became a cheap

Then there’s the special tools for antique vehicles that haven’t been produced since who knows when and will either take you months to find at a swap meet for $1 because it’s just a “doo-hicky” on a table full of “thing-a-mabobs” or is on e-bay for $$$ because now it’s an antique specialty tool.

I think you answered your own question. For most people it’s just a way to tell time that they happen to like the look of, or a fashion accessory that also tells time.

Oh no. If there’s one thing an engineer likes more than a problem to solve or something to fix it’s a special tool to do one of the above.  Who do you think came up with that special tool?

Wait, are you telling me your compact car doesn’t turn into a 20-ft tall sentient robot?

People who want a new car but can’t generally afford one mostly. Hell I bought a used Nissan LEAF, and while I’m sold on electric cars as commuter vehicles, I’ll not own another Nissan.

1. Why? They don’t fund gas stations, why does the government need to fund chargers? Currently DC fast chargers are even better than gas pumps for a convenience store, they take longer and therefore you’re more likely to spend money on the things that actually make them a profit like food and drinks.

Would I want to own one, no even if money were not an issue, I like to be able to play with (read: work on) my cars and this isn’t something you can or want to do that with. But what self-respecting car person doesn’t at least want to drive one? I mean it has to feel like being a superhero or a god. The seemingly

Actually,

Why do you want manufacturing in the US? Its a dirty industry that takes tolls on our infrastructure and appearance.

Comes up every time, and the answer is still the same. It will be far more forward looking to bring hybrid versions of existing SUV/CUVs, as well as the and EVs everyone is supposed to be building, to deal with the next gas crunch than to keep an entire sedan platform around and relevant “just in case”.
