Either party will grasp at anything that they think will get them more votes. In the case of the Sanders campaign, that’s younger voters. I agree with this, and wonder at what point the extent of the makeup treatment was decided upon and/or revealed. If they’d left her be, there would be some talk about how even when they cast a black woman they cast lighter, but nothing like the backlash over the blackface.

I would love to know Zoe Saldana’s real thoughts on the whole thing. I’ve always liked her and deeply want to believe she didn’t realize the can of worms she was opening. I’d love to know that like Rooney Mara and Tiger Lilly, she at least learned something from this.
