Completely understood. My husband is the same, has even said he’s stay home with a kiddo too, but still makes a lot of assumptions about who will say, organize family events, or pick up dinner, or generally keep the household running. It’s hard to de-program that stuff.
It’s absolutely a lady thing. After all, if the kid’s sick, who does he assume will stay home with it? No matter how it actually winds up working out, his initial assumption will color his approach to this immensely.
Hence the “liberal media” bullshit. That way they can point and say “the mainstream media’s got it twisted, but the american public knows we’re right.”
The way I read her words was as a pointed critique on the fact that they posted to their masses of facebook followers instead of calling her and addressing it directly with her. You’re right that they didn’t ignore the issue, but it seems a bit like they were purposefully ignoring Jackie. There’s a huge difference…
I feel like we’re making fun of her here, but guaranteed if a contractor screwed up your house requiring more than a couple hundred bucks worth of repairs, you’d sue them. It’s just how the construction industry works, it’s your only chance of getting it fixed.
Maybe she’s afraid you’ll get stabby about it?
As someone who’s had tuberculosis, I’m still fucking mad that BCG isn’t required to be administered in the US.
Right? People who extrapolate complications like yours into a stance against vaccines would be like me saying that vegetables are unhealthy because I’m allergic to bok choy.
“what kind of emotionally abused person would say, “You don’t need movers! You’ve got us!”?”
Do you ever read Apartment Therapy? Full disclosure, I do blog there on occasion, but long before they hired me I started doing what they call The January Cure. Basically they issue a calendar that has you, over the course of a month, addressing every room in your house in a really thorough way as well as completing a…
I do always see your posts turn up, but I figure that’s because there are so many people trapped in the greys that the few approved people are more noticeable. If it bugs or you’re sensitive to it, I’d say just make an extra effort to promote some folks that might not otherwise get noticed and feel good about…
That is one of the most solid apologies I’ve heard for such a gaffe. Kudos to her.
One of my friends was whining on facebook this morning about how Hillary was just copying Sanders, and I’m like no, but that’s a GOOD thing! If he’s the only one saying it, then he can be dismissed, outvoted, retire, etc. His real value is not in the actions he takes individually, but in shifting the political…
Of course people are sometimes skeptical of other reports. The level and frequency of the skepticism is not anywhere near the same though, and that skepticism is usually coming from somewhere specific (something sounds off about the story, etc) rather than being automatic (don’t trust rape reports!). Having the same…
It’s bullshit for the courts, but not bullshit for the average person and how we treat victims as a society. If my house is robbed or I get mugged, people aren’t like “are you really sure it happened? Are you sure you maybe didn’t say it was sort of ok for him to take your purse and hit you for a while?”
I don’t think she’s on the hook for the shitty things he may have done, but she’s on the hook for standing by him through them. I think the thing at the heart of this sort of question is, how can she talk fairly about crime while being married to a rapist? I don’t know the facts one way or the other, but if you take…
well, Kit might be playing himself in flashbacks, or they might do one of those situations where he looks like Kit to us most of the time but if he sees himself in the mirror he’s somebody else. Or he could be back to play the white walker version of himself, and we’ll have to get used to somebody else playing Jon…
I figured the implication was a little less literal—that Jon Snow might also be able to warg, right out of the fucked up situation.
