People in Portland seem to be really into referring to the city by its airport code for reasons I could never figure out, so maybe it's some kind of cutesy offshoot of that?

I felt exactly the same way. There was an uncomfortable undercurrent of "women amirite" that, among other things, made it hard for me to fully enjoy this.
It's like all Feral shows: starts out weekly-> begins skipping weeks once in a while with gradually increasing frequency-> comes out occasionally-> comes out almost never.
A passionate fan.
I don't know, I think that's a little unfair. I just think it legitimately hasn't occurred to her that not all women act or think like the ones that exist in her personal bubble. She seems to honestly think that she's speaking some kind of universal truth that everyone is going to relate to. I'd call her more…
Not true at all.
I mostly enjoyed her appearance on YMIW, but she had some very misguided, overly broad views of gender on there too. She seems to be someone who takes for granted that her own experiences are automatically everyone else's experiences. And having listened to an episode of her own podcast, she seems to put far too…
It would be fun to get a glimpse at the new parks department at some point this season.
NBC only directly owns about 10 stations across the country. The NBC station in Syracuse is a network affiliate owned by a completely different company. Affiliates get the network feed, but are technically allowed to show as much or as little of it as they choose to.
You're right, I don't think it's strictly necessary, but I think it helps if it's at least a little bit of a factor.
Splitsider is the only other one I know of:
I actually enjoyed the Skip Hardaway one, but they've all been kind of mediocre :( It's tough because I love Lauren more than certain family members and want everything she does to be great.
12 guests was great as usual, and sooooooo much better than the New York one (or the one from earlier this year at some festival). The format really only works in LA, with a bunch of familiar names who mostly have a close relationship to one another.
See above. I'm saying the reason it became a phenomenon is that the wider world started writing about it, and that's when people like you started coming to it (nothing wrong with that, by the way). But the initial hype that made the thing go viral in the first place seems kind of hollow and based on pretty…
The Serial hype really fascinates me. Yes it's a great show, and yes the murder mystery angle gave it an extra layer of appeal. But as far as I remember, This American Life had always been the number one podcast in the country prior to Serial's launch. The difference is TAL listeners regularly get the show via…
Why did you use the word "replaces" when it's a single screening, two days after the release date, at a single location?
Couldn't. Think. Top. Shelf. Thoughts.
What's making me a little uneasy about this podcast is that hosting is a specific and difficult skill. Not everyone is necessarily great at keeping things on track or knowing the best way to draw things out of a person (or character), and it seems like a lot to put that on the guest every week. It unintentionally…
I think Earwolf listeners are the only people who truly grasp the full extent of Cody's ineptitude.
