Yes, thank you for the update. I think this is going to be one of my December books. I started it, then got caught up in a bunch of other stuff and didn't continue.

I suspect many of us are book addicts who greatly appreciate this thread because it gives us so many great recommendations. I know I always read all the way to the end of the comments. And then check back about a week later.

I love "Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy". I'm a big fan of LeCarre in general. I think "The Spy Who Came In From the Cold" is a masterpiece and "Tinker, Tailor" is not far behind.

Wow, yes I will add it. I, too, really love Paz.

Well, at least we can still see # of comments. Right now, a day later, it is saying there are nearly 600 comments. So, it certainly isn't an unpopular feature amongst the commentariat.

As I said above, I only managed to get through 75, maybe 100, pages of it. I found the characters uninteresting. What happens with the characterization later in the book? If I wasn't feeling it at the beginning, is it worth going on?

I received an ARC of "Telegraph Avenue", read about 100 pages and stalled. I've never gained enough interest to finish. Be sure to let me know what you think of it.

I really liked it. I read it earlier this year back to back with "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk". Thought it would be interesting to do two completely different war-themed books in a row. Made sure to put "Billy Lynn" second. And I am glad I did. "The Yellow Birds" was about as depressing as I expected it to

While I think I can handle "The Periodic Table", I'm not so sure I'm ready for "If This Is a Man". I think as I've gotten older I've implemented a quota for Holocaust books. They are just so horrifying. And reading about Auschwitz from someone who was there sounds extra horrifying. Maybe I'll add it to my 2014 list.

@Scrawler Actually, one of the reasons I love the book is because I do think it picks up as it goes. It took me about a month to read the first half of it. And I was enjoying it! Loved all the footnotes. However, somewhere along the line I thought it became gripping. I think the last 150-200 pages or so are

I really hate Wuthering Heights, but I might be able to tolerate it for Tom Hardy.

Amen. I thoroughly hated both of them and it would serve them right if they spent all of eternity making each other miserable.

I've read both "The Moonstone" and "The Woman in White". I liked both. Well, really, I LOVE "The Woman in White". I like it a lot more than "The Moonstone". But, I think they are both tons of fun.

Yeah, I don't think it came into my consciousness until a couple years ago. And now I don't really get why it was so popular. I did the same thing with reading a little bit and then putting it back down.

Excellent question. I feel like the storytelling fizzled after season 3, to be honest. Season 4 kind of sputtered along with a few good episodes. And then season 5 happened, and it was a completely different show. I never got into that story. Though, I did watch all the way to the end. I liked the finale, so there's

There's a sequel to Zapped?? Thanks, I needed a good laugh today.

Well, I took Spanish in school even, and Borges still defeats me. He writes like the poet he is. So often it isn't the vocabularly alone, it is the way he juxtaposes strange words that shouldn't normally go next to each other. So, as someone who relies a lot on context for understanding, this is a bit more difficult

"The Garden of Forking Paths" completely blew my mind when I read it. It was stunning to read that and suddenly realize how influential it has been. Honestly, that was one of my primary reactions to the entirety of "Ficciones" when I read it. Just as one example, I remember suddenly understanding what Paul Auster was

Yes, I have read "Special Topics in Calamity Physics". I quite liked it. Which is why I've had "Night Film" on my list for a while. Well, thanks Scrawler, because that was a good measuring stick for me.

The moderation thing is weird. Hmmm. I'll reply to you here instead.
