Some really great acting from Emmy Rossum at the end there.  But overall I didn't like this episode much.  It was all so contrived.  "Fiona finally tries to let go of some responsibility, and whaddya know, Monica just happens to steal all the family's conveniently-poorly-hidden money!"  And of course nobody thinks to

If you wanna look at it that way, that's your prerogative.  Obviously those changes were written to favor the actors' strengths; I just think they're also explicable within the context of the show's narrative.  Britta's had her layers peeled away, and Troy's entered into a transformative friendship.  Britta's

I didn't notice it being dwelled-upon; I just took it as a funny, irrelevant throwaway joke.

It does.

I do believe you've nailed it.

Bobby.  I always enjoy big-hearted doofus characters (Jody on Shameless is another one I'm liking lately), plus he very strongly reminds me of an awesome college friend of mine (who's much smarter than Bobby, but otherwise very similar to him, in personality and appearance).

Best tag ever!  Also, "a broken bottle for a heart" is a damn good metaphor. Or… I guess that's more like a simile. Whatever.

Yep!  Actually, I was looking at a slideshow about this stuff just yesterday — http://www.vulture.com/2012… .  Was like my prayers were answered, haha; they're always talking about their art department on the DVD commentaries, and how the little things in the background are really funny and a lot of effort goes into

You forgot his name: R J.  Really, it all just needs some unscrambling and punctuation.  Allow me:

@avclub-734ffb84cfa214922893511fae356b45:disqus Oh, I'm sure you're actually in the majority there.  Unless you mean the general AV Club populace.  And I'm sure there are people around here who "cop to" not liking Arrested; you're probably just not looking in the right places.

I think "golden age" Simpsons is probably a pretty good barometer of whether or not you'd like Community.  It's also got a bit of Arrested Development in it, in terms of the very sharp writing, but the characters are very different.

Agreed.  It's not like these characters are speaking Esperanto or something.  Community isn't gonna work for everyone, because nothing does (except, like, breathing and stuff), but I don't think you need to be some mega-nerd to enjoy it.  I thought it was pretty good when I started watching at the end of season 2,

Previously, on Clerks…

Ahh.  I remember Britta and Vaughn hanging out at the coffee shop once or twice, but I guess I never paid enough attention to notice the name of the place. Which is weird, because I'm usually all about sign gags.

Isn't that kind of a hipster/teenager thing to do?  Disliking something just because someone else says he likes it?  Maybe @avclub-d77240e883508e09ac5335ddd1e226fd:disqus is a teenage hipster.

How lucky was it that that ship was right there in front of the library?  Awesome.

If anyone's slightly interested in the show, but needs an additional selling point: I believe tonight's episode of Clone Wars features an insane, half-reanimated Darth Maul.

Not having seen the second season yet, sure, I'll say that.
