No mention of Marty's barrage of voicemails to the ex-wife, huh? I thought that was the only good scene this week. Was tremendously disappointed by everything else, though. I kind of thought that the Marty-Roscoe SF trip, and the revelation of Jeannie's secret fiance would lead to some really good stuff. But aside…
I can't really remember how it happened, but there has to have been some reason that they broke up in the first place. Hank cheating seems as likely as anything.
If you expect realism from Californication, you're doing it wrong.
Always love a good Californication dinner party. Any episode with one of those is bound to get a lot of laughs from me (although this one was a little less funny than the average dinner party episode). And there are usually good character moments too, as there were here. I agree that it was nice to see Hank be the…
Man, I really hated that tag. The writers are clearly rooting for Frank. It's disappointing. Also, the CG in that scene was like a million times better than the CG in Dexter last season. It seems like the latter should have the bigger budget. Whatevs. Oh, and I also hated the Karen-baby reveal. Was hoping the…
Buy me Shameless or go to hell!
I really liked it at first, but it has gotten extremely old by now.
Pretty impressive, this straight guy must say.
Yeah, Frank has always been the worst part of the show, and the only way I can enjoy his stories is when they end with him getting his ass kicked. But the Sheila tag from this episode certainly suggests that the writers are rooting for Frank, and perhaps think we should do so as well. Meanwhile I'm just rooting for…
Arright, I guess I'm wrong then.
Great article, Todd! Adventure games may, in fact, have been my very first "gateway to geekery." The first machine I ever had that was capable of playing games was a 486, and the first game I remember playing on it was Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, which was beautiful and I loved it tremendously (and still…
Well, in this episode they seemed to be oblivious to the fact that they're poor, that lots of kids have better lives (materially) than they do, etc. All the stuff that goes with that. Though I guess, to be fair, you could probably call that "growing up," rather than obliviousness.
I can see what you mean, vis a vis their being upbeat, hyperactive, and oblivious. Never thought of that comparison, but it's definitely valid.
I still haven't gotten many laughs out of this show — I saw all of tonight's episode, and probably about half of the pilot — but this episode did a lot to endear me to the main characters. I think I'm gonna stick with it. Hopefully it gets funnier, but these kids are genuinely likable, and I really enjoy the art…
With the big arrow pointing down at the cleavage? That girl thinks much too highly of herself.
@avclub-6258e285eeb51b21d01ffe9cb9f9c1d1:disqus Rick Perry?
[In the voice of Ralph Wiggum] Everyone's hugging!
What Doralee said. And also, let's not forget that the man has a very smooth voice and can readily carry a tune. And musical aptitude is probably significant to this chick if she's got Grohl on her list.
Next Caller Please and Daddy's Girl sound horrible. Save Me sounds like something that could be good on a Showtime or HBO, but will probably suck wet noodles on NBC. Most of the other stuff seems to have at least a little potential. And hooray for the non-contrived Community mention!
