I thought the light effect was supposed to mirror light coming off the rear view that the son sees his sister in the back of the car from.

So a spoiler question: I’ve seen a bunch of people arguing that the ending of the movie establishes that Charlie was Paimon all along. I . . . didn’t get that sense at all? Certainly, the idea is that the cult had prepared her to serve as Paimon’s host all along, but to me it seems reductive to suggest that this…
Hereditary wasn’t what I was expected. From all the SXSW talk and A24's other critical darlings, I expected a moody, psychological family drama that was all strong screen-cap worthy imagery and scenes set in mostly silence but with this audible hum in the background. A bit of “is it all in her head?” and a metaphor…
I liked the movie a lot. At this point in my life I am pretty much immune to horror movie scares, so I have to settle for admiring the technical work or the quality of the gags. So, I was impressed by the fact that this movie made me physically flinch, totally involuntarily, when Charlie’s big scene happened. I mean,…
Fair enough. I don’t personally agree. I think that along with Jupiter Ascending it is one of the Wachowskis’ unfortunate misfires (and I say this as someone who loves Cloud Atlas, and even has time for The Matrix sequels). But I don’t remotely begrudge anyone who does rate Speed Racer.
Good to know. Him and Tom Hanks are two of the only talented Hollywood male actors I feel I can still trust.
It is very reassuring to know that Kevin Kline is not an asshole.
The best joke from the first half of the season was the Scott Baio one so yeah, I’m kind of on the ‘shut it down’ train.
The show isn’t remotely as funny as it once was and Hurwitz doesn’t seem like he’s got a firm hand on the helm. Maybe it’s time to finally let it go?
I don’t understand the Joss Whedon hate. Yes, the Wonder Woman script is awful, but the rest seems overblown.
“or blame the terrifying rise of public shaming”
As a Bostonian, let me give some unsolicited advice to my motor city friends. When it comes to movies based on your home city and people who have lived there... you have to forget you know the story behind it, and all of the liberties, inaccuracies, appropriations, and bad accents associated with it. Otherwise all…
I mean, what he says is true.
He hasn’t ever been accused of anything by women he’s worked with. That is a simple fact. People can believe other things they have heard about him, things are are heavily disputed, but no actress has ever accused him of anything improper. What he was accused of is separate from the METOO movement.
Jason Mamoa should be the villain in a Crow movie, not the hero.
Am I the only one who can just watch whatever movies I want and not care, because my morality isn’t tied into how I feel about who’s on the screen?
If you’re interested in seeing Schrader’s own directorial work I would say Blue Collar, Mishima and Auto Focus are fantastic, and Hardcore, Light Sleeper and Affliction definitely worth seeing. He’s a little like Spike Lee in that the guy has a strong artistic voice and set of themes that sporadically cohere into…
Good, he should be.
Indeed, especially since it was initially prompted by his decision to work on raising his two children following his wife’s death from cancer in 1997.
We’re all supposed to hate Sean Penn, but no one ever says why. Yeah, he was once a very promising good actor, then he married Madonna, now he’s a radical liberal. Who likes weirdos like Chavez. He’s pretty radically leftist for our system to understand. I can see why people think he’s a dick. Oh, he went out in a…
