Maybe they shot it to be dark and confusing because that’s WHAT IT WAS. Jesus. It was a dark and confusing battle. Snowfall and darkness covered everything. They did it for a reason. It was terrifying and effective.

He’s an old author who pissed away a promising literary career in order to become a sort of celebrity troll, never successfully. To take his words too seriously would be a mistake.

I think your reading of his comments misses his point again. He’s saying that there are plenty of people out there who don’t care about suffering. Actually, a majority of Americans. It’s depressing, but he’s not wrong.

Right. Politics aside, the interviewer wasn’t interested in Ellis’ actual answers to the questions. It’s like they already had the piece written before talking to him. Kind of defeats the point of an interview.

I was under the impression the interviewer had any idea what they were getting into.

Seems more like he’s trying to be vaguely controversial, which is his shtick.

I don’t get what is so hard to understand about his point. He isn’t interested in the actual politics, just the reaction. For the past 20+ years he’s been consumed (sadly, I’d say) by the entertainment industry. By now it’s just boring to anyone who isn’t him. But it doesn’t make his point hard to understand.
