The truth is relative nowadays, haven’t you heard?
The truth is relative nowadays, haven’t you heard?
Absolutely. They are not the same. From her description, does it sound like emotional abuse, or that he was just a dick?
I hope she found her closure!
It’s shitty, but also — would you want to work at the same company with an ex who cheated on you?
Yea, it was an emotionally abusive relationship. Sounds like it sucked. For both of them. It’s still not illegal, and not something someone’s life should be ruined over. It was a mistake. She also cheated on him. It sounds like they weren’t a good match.
That’s not an especially strong comparison. When should the movie she made be released? Whenever. When should she have made this post? Maybe not around the same time she’s promoting a movie.
She has a movie coming out. He’s about to start the new season of his incredibly popular show. She even mentions her movie in the post.
Unfortunately, this is true. I don’t even think I was presenting an extreme possibility.
I mean, Reddit has the good and the bad. 4chan just has the bad.
It was posted at r/television, so I don’t think it’s necessarily catering specifically to incels, etc. I mean, Reddit is a bubble, sure, but AV Club definitely is too.
The reaction on AV is a lot different from the reaction on Reddit, which is basically saying, “Alright, proof time.” A lot of people were quick to support her yesterday, as they should, be after his statement, a lot of people are saying that it’s still one person’s word against another in a bad relationship, and…
You’re right. My line of reasoning assumes that her interpretation of events in their relationship are vastly different from his. I’m not calling her a liar, because I don’t know if she’s a liar or not, or even if she would consider what she’s doing as a lie. He released his statement, saying that there was no sexual…
I read her essay. From her literal descriptions of it, it sounds like there was emotional abuse and possible sexual pressuring. It’s one person’s interpretation of a bad relationship. I’m sure he has his as well. I feel bad for her that she was in such a bad relationship. But that’s what it was - a bad relationship.…
Oh, okay. Listen, I read her essay. The timing of it all, and everything surrounding it, seems dubious. It’s one person’s interpretation of a bad relationship. I’m sure he has his as well. I feel bad for her that she was in such a bad relationship. But her whole “I’m just doing this to get closure” is a little…
If that comes to light, I think it will be a different story. But if it doesn’t, what then? He’ll probably be fine.
Hardwick will be back next year. Dykstra’s claims are more in line with a bad relationship between two people than they are with a one-sided, abusive one. Maybe that guy sucks to work with. I have no idea. But he shouldn’t be fired forever because of this.
I agree. I liked S-Town better. Both are excellent. Weird way to start a news piece about this by injecting a personal opinion but alright.
Thanks so much for writing this, Chris. I’m not a horror aficionado, but I was shaken to my core by Hereditary. Not because of jump scares of anything like that, but because I was afraid long after the movie was over. It has stuck into my brain and had taken over there.
Harmon’s an unrepentant asshole who consistently rails against “poor people.” Fuck him.
Well, I mean... they certainly seem close in the pictures? I have plenty of friends of the opposite sex, and we don’t hold hands while we walk around. Not to say that other people might not? I guess I was just saying, “this is what people are jumping to the conclusion of based off of what they saw.” Again, I didn’t…
