I don’t think they know how to anymore. They’ve had a weird cult of enthusiasts around them so long—well before their turn to boutique tech—that they just assume that their rabid fanbase will go along with whatever design decisions they make.

And yet, there are still scads of people willing to, no obsessed with, using their products. People who will brook no disagreement or criticism, who are incapable of looking beyond their confidence in the brand.
You’re complaining that the entire point of the movie was agreeing with you?
Dustin Hoffman’s testing well with 8-year-olds. Seems they really respond to nebbishy stammering!
Most people who are paid a lot of money are not worth the money they are paid.
He used his force magic to present his younger self to Ky lo Ren on the salt planet c’mon this is basic stuff
Keep in mind that, in the original trilogy, the entire explanation for why Anakin went to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader was never explained by anyone. Even Ghost Obi-Wan just says that it happened.
Dude, I love Star Wars (and I enjoyed TLJ), but it ain’t “art”.
Try implies he attempted and was stopped by something other than himself.
Some types of villains work far better as mysteries or archetypes if you will and Snoke is definitely one of them. Others include Michael Myers - the further they delved into who he is and what his motives are and the less a frightening force (a shape that’s purpose seems to be simply murder), the less frightening and…
I wanted to see what cool variation of lightsaber Snoke would have! Maybe it could have been...yellow.
Really? I feel like I understand Ben completely. He’s a scared little boy whose mentors and parents failed him over and over and is reaching out for any sort of control and stability, even if he has to make it himself. It’s why he became obsessed with Rey: she has much the same background but found strength in herself.…
Mark’s conception of Luke seems to be that he had boundless optimism and heroism inside him, but I think even in the OT we see that slowly eroding as he transforms from the overeager farmboy to the Jedi Knight heading into the Death Star to kill his own father. I appreciate Mark’s desire to see Luke as an eternal…
I think the “mystery” of Rey’s parents was a fantastic solution. She clearly dreamed of being something more then she was and believed that her parents had something to do with fulfilling that part of her life. In Last Jedi she is confronted with the truth and embraces the idea that her parents were never important to…
This is my problem with Abrams. He creates mysteries he doesn’t have an answer for, and it almost always ends up unsatisfying.
His nephew/padawan turned dark side, took some of his classmates with him and burned the whole place down. That really tells you all you need to know, IMO....
Flashbacks are the cornerstones of any good movie. Also voiceovers. And the phrase “what if I told you.”
I feel like the only person in the world who loved finding out that Snoke was a maguffin. I think it’s hilarious and delightful.
Also, humor is bad because Star Wars is serious business.
Inherent vice is his best for me. It’s so underrated
