Deniro in a Scorsese film now has about the same thematic resonance as just Spider-Man’s mask at this point. Effective schtick, but schtick nonetheless.

You kids need to listen to the old white man with 22 Eric Clapton CDs in his house about what is and what isn’t art.

Boomers didn’t vote when they were young either. The voting age was lowered to 18, Nixon was dry humping the constitution nightly & the Boomers had been drafted by the scores to head to Vietnam and McGovern had his ass handed to him in 72. Youth turnout wasn’t great. It’s the being young part not the generation part.

If Boomers want to rehabilitate their reputation they have a chance in say ... November of next year?

How long did they let the “Imperial March” play during the press conference when they announced this?

I was trying to limit my list to cartoonists with talent.

Romita, Colan and Steranko are the other huge talents of Silver Age Marvel. All 3 of them had strong ideas about storytelling as well. Romita less so early on as he wasn’t fully comfortable with superhero work yet. Steranko in particular is not an artist that didn’t contribute (perhaps borderline dictate) the story

With Kirby and Ditko (and a few of the other really talented artists) there was often far less than a Curb outline.

Oh his voice is certainly there and a major part of the appeal but all throughout the 70s he used to begin speeches and introductions to books almost reflexively with “When I created The Fantastic Four/Spider-Man “. He had to be drug kicking and screaming to admit the fundamental roles others played as well. It

Not really. Didn’t say I didn’t like him or think he is a key figure in comics, just that I didn’t take his side.

Oh I’m fully aware of Diko’s idiotic political and personal beliefs. It’s a shame those landed in such a uniquely talented cartoonist. His Mr A strips are brilliantly executed but absolute twaddle.

Ditko would soon prove himself barely capable of working with anyone.

The Marvel method with many of the creators (the good ones: Kirby, Ditko, etc) was as often as not “the villain this issue is Magneto”. The artists were “writing” as much as Lee was.

He lost me at the sides with Stan Lee part

The history of religion is pretty much trying to get laid. Sometimes while arguing others should not be allowed to get laid.

Trump? Politics?

steeped in “traditional values”.

Nearly all 70s and 80s horror is.

Well at least he got one thing right, Wes Anderson and his characters are basically Nazis.

Marvel really should be putting the Perlmutter shows behind them and look forward.
