Yeah. That seems a little too heavy if they are trying to adapt the tone of his character from the comics though.

It is very much there in his presentation in the 70s. They may underscore it more now but it’s been there for a long time. 

Not to mention the worst idea in the MCU ever, giving Hawkeye a wife and family. Hard to salvage his character as the lovable loser after that.
