They’re not offended. They’re choosing to revoke their financial support for a corporation they disagree with. That’s still a thing in this country, I think, being able to choose which mega-corporations to give your money to.
I can relate. I used to live and breath my favorite team and get decked up in their gear from head to toe and paint my face on game day. While my happiness or misery in life hung on whether they won or lost.
I’m not a psychologist, but I’m assuming there’s some deep-seated thing in certain human brains for this sort of super-fandom. Because it’s not even just a sports thing - you could make that exact same argument (and be correct) for Corporate Brands, entertainment celebrities, music bands, TV shows, movies, etc.
Any different than a self-important dingus who spends all day making snarky comments on Deadspin?
Years ago towards the end of my commute on an off ramp there was a clown shoe on the side of the road. I just assumed he gave up clowning and disappointed his family which had a long history of being clowns.
