There actually is probably some truth that the look of a CEO matters. Certainly, people in corporate positions can look around at the high levels and see a bunch of tall men with full heads of hair and tall fit women. The short, fat, bald, or ugly people generally don’t advance that high.

First of all congratulations on some really great click-bate headline!! Your awesome. Seriously, 99% of people have no idea what CEOs do, they just see a paycheck and don’t see the value because they can’t relate to the “work” that CEOs perform behind closed doors. Before you bash CEOs take a look at college and

It used to be that being the CEO was like being a QB in football. When things were going well, you got praised and paid to high heavens. When things weren’t going well, you took the blame and suffered pay decreases.

i do software work in startupland, and in this particular dynamic, CEOs also have the critical role of building and motivating the right teams... in fact, thats a super fuckin’ hard problem for companies that have like 3-6 months of money / runway to get it right or go out of business.

They do say that other countries would help pay for the facilities. Of course why the other countries would offer to do that remains a mystery. Sure, here you go, Greece. Have a hell of a party. We’ll just call this a write off. Again.

How can someone have THAT money and THOSE teeth?

I would argue that the author DOES see that, and it’s pretty plain in his piece. This is not a hit job on Ilitch, but more of a analysis of the complicated nature of a rich man doing what’s best for him while it also benefits a struggling city.

When the rich rig the government to give them tax breaks, then take advantage of the tax breaks, and then bitch about the government not giving them enough tax breaks, sane people are not going to “get over it”.

So if the Olympics are held in the US how is that going to work with the Muslim ban? Conversely if the Olympics are held outside the US what happens if they decide to implement their own travel ban that targets the US?

Well-written article. We live in a world where everyone is either Jesus or Hitler, with seemingly no one in between. Most people leave complicated, even contradictory, legacies. And you captured that.

Certainly can’t imagine why the Olympics would not want to go to a country where the leader has vowed to ban 16% of the world’s population from entering.

Like it matters.

Seriously. Why do cities even want to host? Six months after the games and the place looks like a dystopian nightmare.

The IOC is goddamn disgusting letting countries who can’t afford to host these things compete over them in a desperate attempt to get some recognition for their country. Good for Hungary. The games should remain in Athens permanently out of respect to tradition and ALL participating countries should contribute

The IOC is going to be pissed to hear this news considering Budapest was the city with the least pre existing facilities to host the games.

Maybe Brazil should offer to host the games again. Seems unlikely that Ryan Lochte will still be competing by then.

As politically incorrect as it is these days, Trump has a point. LA was one of the most successfully run games in recent memory. If IIRC they also did not wreck LA financially and even made a little money. Granted part of the reason for that was they already had a good portion of the infrastructure already in place

Per the AP, there’s an investigation into stolen copper at Maracanã stadium. It’s unclear if the stolen copper was once a part of the installation pictured—which is at the same stadium—but the fact remains.

Yup. They even wanted Boston to take down the bridges over the Charles River for the boating events. Fuck that. As a resident, I’m glad they said no.

I wonder if the Olympic organizers, even for a millisecond, feel bad when they see this. Yea they got their bribes, yea they put on a pretty show for two weeks. But from the first day it was obvious Rio was not up to hosting these games, nor were they ever going to be able to transform the infrastructure into a
