Wish this didn’t sound crazy. If it comes out that the WH has signed off in ANY way with the cbp ignoring a court order and the rest of the GOP is unwilling to put any brake on that then I’m not sure where else we are headed.

I remember when I first got my immigrant visa - it was a nice morning in November and I celebrated with a venti mocha frappucino at the Starbucks near the US embassy.
And that is why we are already seeing the breakdown in law. The CBP were ordered by a federal judge to stop. The law requires them to stop. If Trump doesn’t like it, he can order his AG to appeal/file for stay/etc. Request an emergency hearing before SCOTUS. The Judge is the check and balance to Trump.
If they are ignoring federal court orders the whole “legal authority” goes out the window. They are only able to do what they do because they are guys with guns.
Because, without a valid reason to be suspicious of someone’s behavior, it is not CBP’s job to give “one last vetting” to an immigrant holding a valid visa. Especially when they’re refusing to allow arriving immigrants access to their lawyers.
I constantly underestimate how evil these fuckers truly are. I really need to stop that.
Members of law enforcement explicitly saying they take orders only directly from the Executive Branch (which is really Bannon) is doubly terrifying in light of this report http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/law-enforcement-agencies-infiltrated-white-supremacists-extremists in which the FBI admits hate groups have…
You just described what driving in the South with Northern license plates feels like.
Oh its worse than that: deport green card holders who use public assistance, AND charge their sponsor for the costs of that public assistance:
I’ve heard the latest one making the rounds involves deporting any Green Card holders who go on public assistance for too long.
That said, what was so bad about the handling of the Sarkisyan piece?
What’s bad is that this outcome was not predictable, because five days in the CBP, at least at certain airports, still aren’t operating on clear universal directives from the executive branch about what exactly they’re supposed to be doing. If you go sifting for individual stories you can find instances of widely…
Anyone who truly believes in American Exceptionalism, and yet continues to support this administration and its actions, is either ignorant, a hypocrite, or both.
Well, the judge would have to ask the US Marshals to do the arresting. And if they wouldn’t serve the order....
I cannot imagine the terror these people experience at the process.
Just to understand, Nana Sarkisyan’s husband was vetted out one last time before being allowed into the US. Once all checked out, he was allowed to freely go about his way. Is that a correct understanding of what happened?
This was always OBL’s stated intentions. He was never going to win a physical war. He didn’t have the armament or the people. He knew that. So he set out to completely disrupt our way of life and have us make choices based on fear rather than intelligence.
A group of lawyers in Los Angeles said they had demanded the U.S. Marshals Service serve the federal orders to CBP, but the marshals refused, citing the instructions of counsel to await orders from the U.S. attorney.
The ACLU needs to find a way to get the Marshalls, the CBP, and the US Attorneys on the same page. All of the volunteer attorneys are great, but with so much ad hoc legal wrangling going on, there’s too much confusion about what the court order actually means and what actually needs to be done, and who actually needs…
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be in a country when a dictator took over? What would be the first sign that things had shifted from democracy and rule of law to a dictatorship?
