Let me tell you a secret. FFXV is a mediocre game. It’s a bad Open world game and a bad Final Fantasy Game. The main story is about 10 - 15 hours long and you have to grind side content to level up. So without doing all the boring side quests that are all the same. It’s a 30 hour game.

The “slow to rank up” was due to a bug that made control point maps give exp without calculating player skill so it resulted in 5% exp, while payload gave full exp, So you would win 3 or 4 KOTH maps and then lose a payload map and derank. It was resolved in a hotfix last night.
