On the eve of the inauguration, I think it’s a good time to remember that under President Obama, twenty million Americans gained health insurance, cutting the percentage of uninsured Americans to single digits; same-sex marriage was legalized; DADT was repealed; combat positions were opened to women and transgender

The “Roundable on Sustainable Palm Oil” is total bullshit, just FYI.

Seriously I’m so sick of people ignoring and suppressing discussion of all the horrid unending controversies because talking about the room being on fire is somehow divisive.

It’s bullshit. We shouldn’t be legitimizing him AT ALL.

Gots to agree, Livia. Cheeto Hitler is not a normal candidate, he is not a normal President-elect, he is an active danger to the republic, our shared values as a people, and to our national sovereignty. Selling out our government to Vladimir Putin, and arranging his campaign and his office-holding for personal

My democratic ideals also tell me to raise fucking hell when someone is attacking our civil liberties and frankly attacking our democratic ideals.

Since Jane who very much is an ignorant slut dismissed my comment, I’ll repost it here:

I was going to say that while you are right it’s not “wrong” to participate in it, but it’s also not “wrong” to skip it, just like you said, so the only remaining issue I have with your comment is the part of about peaceful transition of power, considering the person being sworn in doesn’t/didn’t believe in that

I agree. It’s a 100 year tradition, not an forced endorsement. I won’t be watching (I don’t think I could stomach it), but being there is not supporting him. I hate trump with every fiber of my being, but I also don’t like that this has turned into a mass of bullying and death threats over who is going. If you want to

I agree that it’s not an immoral act. I also would state that the inauguration can happen without fanfare or even an audience. It’s perfectly acceptable for him to be sworn in at ceremony at the white house quickly and quietly for there to be a “peaceful transition of power.” So, there’s no real obligation to attend

He’s president. I hate it, you hate it. But at the end of the day, the inauguration isn’t about him, it’s about our Democratic ideals and our belief in the peaceful transition of power, even when it goes to people we disagree with or despise. So I stand with Barack Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and,

A rejection of sexual predators and bigots should also be non-partisan and non-political, but here we are.

dear jezzies going to the march

I am always uncomfortable at the thought of Trump anywhere near children given his comments about his daughter, a young Paris Hilton and all of his other creepy comments.

Like being called a racist is worse than being racist. In the immortal words of my father: It’s all coming together...I rather wish it weren’t.

Then I’ll be tried and convicted for assault because this is Trump’s America.
