Ah, I never said we weren’t disagreeing! That was in response to another user bringing a less weirdly aggressive and condescending energy to an article about steam achievements.
I mean I agree, I never said developers should have to cater to one type of player or another, only that I can see it being frustrating if you like to play games a certain way and it is not made clear before buying this game that it doesn’t allow for that.
Characters in current games are already at that level. The hair rendering I have to say it isn’t holding up that well at least in this example. The hair rendering has already been available in UE4 so it’s not new either.
Well, there’s social and political bias but you REALLY lit the powder keg by saying starting their own company.
It would be nice if we lived in a vacuum. It would be nice if a group of people didn’t enslave a continent’s people. It would be nice if those same groups of people didn’t colonize that same continent as well as many others. It would be nice if those same group of people didn’t so strongly discriminate against…
Technology and processes that would propagate across multiple characters of different ethnicity ...
from what i understand about Unreal Engine 5, it’s supposed to automatically scale the detail of assets it renders based on how close you are to seeing them, ie assets up close have more detail than from far away because who case about eye lashes on a human across the room from you but the important thing is that…
I get your arguments, and I won’t say they’re wrong or bad, because we certainly do live in a time where society feels pretty dang divided over just about anything. However, I would say both Fahey’s (sarcastic) and hellhog’s takes merit consideration, especially, as hellhog pointed out, when the problem isn’t just who…
If I want to see a scruffy white man, I’ll look in the mirror. Show me something different. The first demo was more interesting.
Nowhere near as poignant. The realization that the achievement is unobtainable is supposed to be unpleasant. That is the artist’s intent. Its an artistic choice. Not everybody is gonna like it. Thats ok.
It’s not the same thing if you can achieve it though.
That said I think it’s also one of those cases where we shouldn’t tell people how to enjoy a game.
I just finished the Trial of the Lovers (which was Rough because everyone HATES YOU), and my final achievement is the Trial of the Fool, which I swear to the Maker was specifically designed to make my completionist heart break.
Man, if I needed to 100% every game I played on Steam for personal reasons, I’d have played maybe a quarter of the games I’ve played. Heck, I consider my average 34% achievement rate for games I play to be reasonable since I can’t remove the games I got one achievement in and decided I didn’t like playing it.
I definitely agree it’s interesting thematically. That said I think it’s also one of those cases where we shouldn’t tell people how to enjoy a game.
Not playing a game you were interested in due to an achievement you can’t obtain is pretty ridiculous to me. I run for fun and while I’ve been able to qualify for some of the big name races I know I’ll never win, but to say, “I know I won’t win so might as well not even run”, Would be idiotic.
No mention of Ren’py?
