As a white guy (white Canadian guy), I’ve noticed that US news outlets don’t have a problem with showing videos/pictures of dead or dying black or brown people, but never white people. Am I just making this up, or is this a thing?

Haha duly noted! I did a big Twitter thread a while back on the dangers of detergent packs (and hooooo boy was [DETERGENT COMPANY REDACTED] ever PISSED at me for it. I got a call on a SATURDAY MORNING from their PR rep. True story: I didn’t answer the phone, because I was having sex with my girlfriend. Priorities!)

Check your closet.

Orphan remains my greatest moviegoing experience. It was just a so-so thriller, but at the big reveal a tween/early-teen girl sitting down the row from us stood up and shouted ESTHER GOT TITTIES at the top of her lungs. It was incredible and probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed in public.

Guess I’m the only big sap here. I saw this and immediately got choked up.

The worst financial advice comes courtesy of my mother (and I’m sure many other 80's kids born to baby boomer, immigrant parents can vouch for this): AlL dEbT iS bAd, DoN’t UsE cReDiT cArDs.

Honestly, as someone who’s had issues with this in the past (haha, who hasn’t?), moving from “you need to love yourself!” to “things are fine.” was a really, really good switch. I’m fine. I don’t need to love my body or whatever, just accept it and treat it well. And having a therapist who let me set that goal (“I

That’s one of the many responses you might go with. This book talks about at great length naming your child’s emotions as a way to teach them about emotional intelligence. You could have just as easily said “wow, you seem incredibly frustrated”, another invitation to talk about it further. And sometimes you’ll get

This is unfair to Jane Goodall.

But Biden’s whitesplained reason for working at a segregated swimming pool to learn about black people might be the most disconcerting part of this story.

Has someone just asking “why are you so sad?” ever actually helped you as an adult do that? Or, as I think more likely, has it been more valuable for a supportive person to say “tell me what happened” and let you talk and parse it out? The article isn’t advocating for ignoring naming emotions. It’s advocating talking

This is a way to improve emotional intelligence. Identifying/naming specific emotions as they happen is necessary before any deeper examination of causes or ways to move forward. Reflecting on emotions and sitting with them is an important step forward. Jumping too far ahead in the process can be frustrating and

So let me get this straight. His take is that trump has a white superiority complex. He only appoints white people to the bench because he thinks white people are superior. He sees trump’s party as “pursuing a ‘pro-white’ agenda and using black people like him as ‘political pawns.’” BUT, he wouldn’t call trump racist.

This seems appropriate. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be allowed to have a job, but it probably shouldn’t be one where he has influence over girls or women.

Having the wrong people laugh at his comedy for the wrong reasons is a perpetual problem for Chappelle, but this time the blame is on him.

I think it’s also because it’s so unnecessary. Women face a lot of pressure to keep up their looks, especially the older they get, so it stands to reason that some women would take it way too far and turn into Jocelyn Wildensteins or Real Housewives. Men are for the most part spared that pressure, especially if they

That’s literally not at all what I did, but whatever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Its just such a silly and embarrassingly obvious political spectacle. I hate that this artifice is a part of politics. And I’m not talking about any ‘good ol’ days’ because politicians have literally always done this kind of pandering silliness and a certain segment of the populace laps it up like eating a corn dog at

That, and also the fact that many Latinx are white, and with the I got mine mentality. As a Nicaraguan it sucks specially for me because I know many of us in Florida are Republicans, just mind boggling overall.

You know something you see in strange places with Latinos in TX and FL in particular. Living in TX now, those who have several generations been in TX lean incredibly right and really tout their Americanness. In FL, the older Cuban population, are so anti-Castro they will vote Republican without a second thought. Its
