From the xenophobic angle, yes. From his (professed and alleged stances of late) other views, no.
Yeah, but it was a Pitcher this time, not a Catcher
I wasn’t very clear. I didn’t suggest Oliver was repeating himself (because, as he’s said, he’s barely mentioned Trump), but rather was doing the same thing everyone else was doing, mocking a man who is really, really easy to mock. I always thought Oliver was above what everyone else was doing. And it’s not like…
You caught that too? I don’t doubt the man is an asshole, and a shitty businessman, and even pandering to a crowd, but he’s still moderate on many issues compared to some of the party.
He doesn’t “need” to do anything, he's a comedian. A comedian I happen to enjoy and agree with on most issues, one who I find very informative and entertaining. But, no, he's not doing a public service by saying a loud, obnoxious asshole is a fraud, when most of his viewers know he's a fraud.
And vote for who exactly? The Canadian fundamentalist who wants to nuke the Middle East until “the sand glows”? The brain surgeon who thinks the pyramids stored grain? The party puppet Rubio? Or about Kas- oh, he’d actually be fine lol, but he never had a shot.
Sure, I agree. He’s really taken to politics, huh?
Well, I agree with the basic premise Cruz being scary, but I disagree with the comparison to Nixon. He isn’t anything close to Nixon.
Well, a couple of things. I meant “over and over again” in reference to the media as a whole. I like John Oliver because he’s above the “Omg, is Trump the next Hitler?!?!” stuff. He does a lot of amazing reporting, and has some very funny takes along the way, but it’s about topics you don’t hear much about.
how so?
Nah, because I already knew it. A lot of the stuff he goes into depth on is really very interesting, and often stuff I don’t know much about, which is why it can be so entertaining. I knew about the voting ID issues, and the arguments for and against it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the government…
And the guys next to him have talked about letting people die in the streets because they’re poor and nuking sand “until it glows”
Well, that’s a politician for you. He’s just more obvious about it.
That’s the presidency in general, isn’t it? Without the support of Congress, their actual power is quite limited. Just look at the trouble Obama is having with Congress.
Didn’t see the abortion one, but I did see the voter ID one and wasn’t terribly impressed. I still have high hopes, but they seem to be dangerously verging towards “Let’s just make fun of the news and the people the news talks about!!!”, which is great and all when it’s the Daily Show, but this is supposed to be…
Well, I was referring to his overall platform. Certainly, on foreign policy, he is anything but moderate.
This is an excellent point. Trump says some ridiculously stupid things, and there is a smack of fascism in some of that stuff, but the guy overall is relatively moderate. Cruz is a fucking nut job. All I needed to see the other day was Trump to admit that he wouldn’t let sick people die in the streets without medical…
This is why I haven’t been able to watch John Oliver as much lately. For a while, the show was great at in-depth reporting on some issue no one else was talking about. Now he’s just repeating the same old stuff every other news outlet is saying, but perhaps a little bit funnier. It’s sad, cause Oliver is obviously…
Of course, agreed. This means very little for the regular season, since that #2 seed in the division is the most likely scenario. But it’s not like it matters much. Right now the wild card teams are Detroit and Pittsburgh. The Islanders are tied for points with the Red Wings and just a few up on Pitt. Washington will…
