I like how the show somehow figured a way for Riker to yell “SHEILDS UP!”

The way Samberg played their final scene at the bar with complete sincerity was unexpectedly touching. Jake so rarely drops the quippy, cocky facade that it really works when he does.

Lulu Wilson was phenomenal as Kestra. TNG never had a great track record when it came to child actors, but Wilson was phenomenal here — selling the family chemistry with Riker and Troi, capturing wild exuberance of a free range child with a rural upbringing playing in the woods, conveying the loss of Kestra’s older…

That’s almost half!

You know what’s striking about this show? Every week there are, like, five different actors who could be the best part of an episode.

The Todd scenes in El Camino just reinforce my belief that his on screen death is just about the most satisfying death in tv or movies in recent memory. 

Good catch. That’s actually a great, subtle piece of continuity, and sadly ironic. They ripped him open looking for a part that wasn’t even there.

He hadn’t had his cortical node for a while. He gave it to Seven to save her life back in the Delta Quadrant.

And then Janeway pulls up in a tricked-out Voyager, wearing weirdly opaque shades. “Picard! You have to come back with me!”

also nice touch with the voyager theme in that scene. 

You killed Icheb.....you bastards!

Now I’m imagining the alternate version of this show that’s just a buddy comedy with Picard and 7 of 9. 

As someone who watched all of Voyager, that cold open with the tortured murder of Icheb was a proper shocker.
