I don’t think he wanted the spotlight on him either. He just concentrated on his playing, back there where he could hear Bonham’s drums and keep the solid rythm that characterized the band.

In my humble opinion, JPJ was the most musically gifted of all of the Zeppelin members. He could pick up about a dozen different instruments and play them like a total boss. He did not, however, have the magnanimous personality that the others had, so he was often not recognized for his talents.
