Sounds more of a problem with your choice of series. 26 episodes is 8-9 hours of footage, more than enough to tell any story that isn't adapting a manga running for a hundred chapters or more. To compare it, a theatrical film can tell a story just fine and they only last about 2 hours.

To me it seems like it gets alot of attention because of KyoAni. Not entirely sure what I expected from it, but neither the drama nor the comedy are that solid. It is a just above average series this season so far. Haven't read the LN and I am just waiting for the plot to pick up or something.
