I was just thinking this is actually an attractive design, especially in comparison to the other Japanese offerings lately.

Weird. I’m American and thought the same thing about yours. Looks like a generic box with Fischer price buttons.

Torchinsky and her totally should get together.

I’m especially baffled by the people who lust after ones from the 90s. Why.

Uh... What? Switches remain limited due to demand, not supply. Nintendo promised 2 million at launch, then paid for express shipping and sent out 2.8 million instead and STILL sold out within hours. They’ve been shipping enough units to top the charts every month since then. You can’t anticipate unprecedented demand

Funny. I had a few people respond to me in a similar manner. Sadly, I meant it. Its a total dick move and I am no where close to wealthy but it was fun. The responses were great.

Equal length = balance in power delivery, consistent exhaust backpressure and turbo spooling, etc. because everything is smoother. Imagine if you had completely unequal exhaust pulses such that all 4 “collided” at once - the backpressure would be terrible, temporarily stalling the turbo and killing boost.

Maybe you should try the Subaru Lineartronic system, which can mimic a fixed gear box, if you want the clunks.

Go re-read about Williams and their F-1 application of CVT technology.

They were tested, and banned before they could run because of how fast they would make the cars. Williams FW15C tested and the FIA explicitly banned CVTs a few months later

I love manuals but graugeist actually has a point. Cvt was tried in f1 in the 90’s and was instantly so much faster it was banned. Think about it you would then have a motor which basically never drops out of peak power output. It is actually similar to how top fuel cars run. They actually have one gear and use

The Williams FW15C had a CVT, and was clearly better!

A great manual gearbox in a great car is a great thing. But that gearbox needs to match the character of the entire drivetrain. A car like the Miata, like a Cayman, like a Fiesta ST, like a WRX, or even a Corvette is matched perfectly to a manual transmission. But the way the newest generation of turbocharged engines

I raise you the ZF 8-Speed

No, true enthusiasts like whatever goes faster, and a CVT will be faster and more efficient than a comparable geared transmission.

You’re just hung up on shitty old tech.

Don’t like constructive conversation?

I know right? Well, time to go buy one of these then:

It never ceases to amaze me why we fetishize a terrible transmission, along with terrible engines etc. It’s like we can’t enjoy nice things like a perfectly-balanced engine (I-6 / boxer), but we need that V-8 “burble” or unequal-length boxer sound. We can’t appreciate a smooth CVT or direct drive, so we need the

I love my manuals. I bought a new JK 3.6 Pentastar with one. Its great off road, great for selecting a gear for a climb in 4Low, engine breaking down a steep loose slope where brake pedal use is a death sentence. Its a Jeep.
