We actually have no idea how epigenetics work. Scratch that, we understand the "how", we just don't understand the "when" the "where" and the "why". And every time a discussion of epigenetics ensues, I can't help but be reminded of Pangenesis.

Edited to ask genuine, non snarky question. How can you have 17 percent of kids score over the 95th percentile? I mean, I know my lady brain is terrible at math but...
Well, it depends on whether you got the pelvic ligament problem thing, like I did. It took about 9 months postpartum to get those muscles back. And my stamina. But maybe the more kids, the longer it takes? Although with one of my kids, I had zero energy during the pregnancy, and the second that baby was out, BAM. …
I'm sorry. I was being glib before. And kudos to you. Your strength is unfathomable.
The book is simply an essay of different topics using sources from different texts. I think it's helpful because so much of these topics aren't well covered for women, especially with regard to birth control (I don't think anyone should ever ask a Rabbi for "permission" to use it. Just do whatever you feel is best…
Right. On one hand, Yaakov is penalized for putting Dina in a box, and in the next minute, Dina is penalized for being too "out there". And yet no one seems to remember that Sara and Rivka were also locked up in boxes, and yet they still managed to get kidnapped. So it's obvious that nothing women do will prevent…
Orthodox Jew here, too. The problem with modesty discussion in young girls is that the ages are getting younger and younger, and the stringencies are getting more ridiculous. Sometimes, the focus on tznius with young girls has the opposite effect of the point - which is although your goal is to removing the focus of…
I just can't. I'm sure I"m going to be one of those women with the IUD that gets their period for a month straight, and then I'll be pissed.
I know people are piling on you, but I just wanted to clarify one thing: Not just the physical assault, but the fact that these boys took pictures of her naked body and spread it around as far and as wide as possible.
I don't think that's true. I saw the news last night, and the manager was adamant on tv that the waiter in question had been fired.
The waiter was mean, but I think the management did the best they could. 50% off your meal? Say thanks and go on your way. Why does everyone feel entitled to everything at the slightest offense?
but the kids are pretty much acting on their religious parents' orders.
"Wow, she wouldn't have been able to capture that level of beauty if she were all exposed."
I feel the same way, only I'm an orthodox Jewish woman. I hate the idea that women are to blame in any way for rape, when the onus should be entirely on men. I see that in Egypt, studies show that women who wear the hijab are just as harrassed, if not more so, than women without, so it's clearly a society thing.
Excellent point. If wearing a sexy dress makes you feel good, because you feel sexy, then why are women surprised when men decide that "sexiness" becomes the most important factor for them.
Well, I'm not sure that we get to do anything free from judgement. We judge everything all the time, everywhere.
I hear what you're saying, but that money is there for the small percentage of women that are stuck in a bad situation, and did not intentionally milk the system to get there. I don't think you should be allowed to punish the few to teach a lesson to the majority.
Very interesting perspective. Thank you.
Exactly. So very well put. Thank you.
