That’s a silly, useless definition of ‘racism.’ If acknowledging the existence of White privilege is racist, then we can’t have a productive conversation about race.

I mean, he’s joking against a strawman, then, and in a familiar way that all older people attack something new (to them): it’s so bad and there’s so little of it. No one has suggested twitter replace all forms of human communication. It has many uses and has more than proven its worth. It’s not going anywhere. His…
This self-conscious hack is too controlling for that. I bet he drafted it out in a word processor to count the characters and then triple-checked before c/p.
Nah, he’s got a whole team of young white dudes who get paid to make him sound as funny as he thought he was in 1999.
When Sotomayor was nominated, Newt said that this very sentiment — that White people cannot understand some things the way people from a minority background can — was a display of racism that should disqualify a person from holding office. What he said today isn’t a “complex thought,” it’s a straight up repudiation of…
Conservative white politicians don’t even want that for poor white people so kindly take that talking point elsewhere.
Because they just nominated Trump?
I’ll welcome him if he continues seeing the light from now on but considering he went on Fox the next day and spewed anti-BLM and “All lives matter” crap, I’m not so optimistic
Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, said: “Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

“It’s is important for the NRA not to comment while the investigation is ongoing.”
You see, that is part of *your* privilege. The ability to see that statement and believe it’s anything other than a move in some larger game of political chess. It’s not like conservative white politicians have never acknowledged the plight of black people in this country. Talk is cheap. Especially in an election year.
It’s not hard to understand that Republicans can have complex thoughts. It’s hard to understand why Newt Gingrich is currently expressing an empathetic perspective that is entirely contrary to his previously expressed opinions.
Probably neither.
The notion that the black experience in America is and has always been fundamentally different from the white experience in America is not a “complex thought”. It’s a blatantly obvious observation to any semi-aware adult.
Well just because he’s an asshole, doesn’t mean he’s not still a black man. He understands what our community goes through nonetheless.
Some of you should try and become leaders in the conservative movement, because it appears that you’re a tiny minority. Joe Walsh’s tweet is getting a lot more attention than Newt’s.
Because, Clam, they typically tend to demonstrate a complete lack of empathy, compassion, and introspection. You would know this if you followed politics even a bit.
Like all amphibians, Newt struggles to balance his two lives.
