I don’t excuse premeditated murder but when you get past 30 years in prison and the prisoner has rehabilitated I’m unclear on the reason to hold them behind bars.

Murder actually has the lowest recidivism rate of any crime. It’s highly unlikely that this woman is going to kill again, or even park illegally. So what is the point of keeping her in prison then? Pure punishment for a 50 year old crime?

You know what’s so sad? My brother wants to let his kids play outside unsupervised but he can’t because they’d literally be the only kids outside. I’m more terrified of my neighbors calling CPS on my kid more than my kid getting hurt.

As previous posters have pointed out, childhood may have changed for some. But I still had the largely anarchic childhood you describe. My home life was miserable, but my curfew was “night time” and I lived on the edge of some woods I basically colonized with my friends. I was born in 1984.

I’m both sorry and proud of you for making that difficult decision. There’s a lot of baggage when it comes to family and we do our best to weather them, but making the choice to sever should be more a reflection of their toxicity than your decision to leave.
