I don’t work in food service, but I do have a part time retail gig. I tell customers not to get X for a specific reason, but always offer an alternative. I’d rather you not buy something then return it later.

At the store I work in we *do* get credit for the sales made on our in store computer. So, instead of calling another store when we’re out of stock, I go to the website and have people order through there for pick up at other stores. We get credit since the payment for that is put through on the corporate level.

Yeah, the store I work in part time does this. If we don’t have an item in the store you can use the computer to have it shipped to your home at a reduced shipping cost.
