This. There’s a weird puritanical current in progressive feminism that really infantilizes women and can’t seem to see them as anything other than potential victims.

Yeah- seriously, she’s 22. She’s old enough to date whoever she wants, even if they’re lame 40 something guys

I would love it if Jezebel would just make an official statement of editorial directional here and just come clean about their bourgeois handwringing.

Jez and the commenters have always been obsessed with age gaps for as long as I’ve been reading this site (I miss the old Gawker days, sigh). Anyway, as near as I can tell, age gaps are definitely a female obsession, but as of late it seems to have spilled over into American life in general. We’ve infantilized our

Yeah. I mean, Mayer’s a douche but at the end of the day, Shipka’s old enough to make her own mistakes.

Seriously, what is with Jez’s recent obsession with age gaps? This has to be the fifth (or more, I wasn’t counting) article about different people in the past few weeks.

They’re consenting adults that work in completely different industries. It is quite literally none of your concern.

Same. Hope this results in a bigger audience for the GVH team, and they find success with their game. Living well is the best revenge and all that.

Hadn’t heard of this game till now, not even gonna bother reading the article, slapped it on my to-buy list for when it comes out. Fuck incels.

Yeah hun, I’m sure it was those mean nasty women who don’t love your dumb wizard books as much as he does.

Uh celebrity memoir bookclub the podcast!

I’m sorry, are you even reading the comments on this thread alone. “They” (in regard to the fans I was referencing) are the ones *literally* pushing the “Netflix deliberately hired writers who hated the source material” & they are swarming over this & every over Witcher thread on every platform I’ve looked. Yeah, its

Starship Troopers is great in spite of the book.

On the other hand... there is something very different about a multi-decade, cross-media, series that makes it somewhat more reasonable to be concerned about adherence to the source material. Words like “canon” start to be tossed around in a way that borders on

Yeah, that’s the ludicrous take that I’ve been hearing a lot lately from certain fans. That some nebulous “they” (who those fans can never actually identify) deliberately hired writers who “loathed the source material”. Netflix was forking out roughly ten million an episode for The Witcher & people are trying to tell

Was not a fan of portraying the entire witcher guild as what would look like (and would act like) the cast of a 2018 Los Angeles tattoo parlor reality-TV show in season 2 either”

You’re right - imagine if ‘Haunting of Hill House’ was just another rehash of Shirley Jackson’s original story?

So there are reasons to dislike the books. they contain a LOT of misogynist material that was prevalent in fantasy during the 80's when they were written. The fact that the series has avoided a lot of that while also bringing out a lot of the good parts of the books shows that the writers care about the material.

From the WaPo:

If views in 2006 matter more than views recently, then Donald Trump is a Hillary Clinton supporting Democrat...

My questionable life choice is dealing with fucking dregs like your tired ass. But hey, y’all wanna keep trying to rape/murder me, so I guess that’s just my lot in life, just like your lot in life is being a pathetic asshole.

These men live their lives knowing women would sooner stick dead animal bones in their eyes than see them naked. It makes already stupid men very very angry.
