You must’ve misunderstood something. I’m as spiteful of car salesmen as anyone, but I can’t imagine one suggesting a buyer choose 60 months over 48 months for the same payment.

Yeah. People just need to pump the brakes for a minute. You don’t need a new house _right now_. You don’t need a new car _right now_. Rates will go down once banks realize they kind of need people to invest in things to make money, and they actually need to be in a position to compete again.

Right there with you. Having done a meager 350 mile drive from Phoenix to Santa Barbara recently, one thing I definitely didn’t need more of was uninterrupted road time. I couldn’t imagine driving basically 12 hours nonstop. 

It’s a nice idea, but ultimately I don’t think it would stand up to legal scrutiny. The manufacturers would file suit to block such an action and the state would have a very hard time proving that car manufacturers are culpable in crack heads taking a sawzall to the cars they make.
