Some further context: I just had a gander at the linked story. The tweet they controlled the comments on was one in which they announced that Camilla had joined “a video call with staff and formerly homeless residents of Emmaus Brighton...to discuss the challenges faced by the charity as a result of the coronavirus

Exactly! My sister was just dealing with in-laws who claimed that not being able to host a big Thanksgiving was “bad for their mental health”, a phrase they’ve recently learned and have been applying to EVERYTHING they don’t like.

I once told my family that my ex and I bought some masks while we were in Mexico - I now have 14 masks on my walls b/c they found that to be something easy to get us (and my ex didn’t want them) - careful what you tell your family since they are desperate to figure out what to get for Xmas

Not all families work the same way. In some families, this isn’t “doing something nice”. In some families, this is codependent and/or manipulative.

I’ve kind of gotten to the point as an adult that I really don’t want very much in general anymore. I’ve really never liked spending money, and since I live in such a small apartment I don’t need more “stuff.” I mean... I’m kind of at a point where I’m actively downsizing because I feel like I have too much. I know

One year when I was a young, single (poor) Mom, I decided to make Christmas presents for everyone. It was the most stressful, horrifying holiday ever!

Let’s also not forget that a lot of Zoom calls people are forced into (where children and pets make charming cameos, thank you very much) aren’t actually needed in the first place and it’s really because most managers are never actually trained in how to MANAGE and prioritize someone’s output vs. visibility.

This is just absurd.

Because he seems to value loyalty above all else, I worry who he would pick as his VP if he is the nominee. Given his age and his recent heart attack, he should be picking a VP beyond reproach, but also one who can hit the ground running. I worry that instead, he will pick Nina Turner or someone on his campaign. I

I feel like it’s fair to say YA isn’t always fit for college classes just as Dean Koontz isn’t. Authors having access to 24/7 opinions about their work isn’t really healthy

It’s not about censoring one book, it’s about choosing a *better* book for a program with very limited spots and resources. If you’re choosing one book for the entire incoming student body to read, you want it to be a good one, right? If you’re selecting a book to win the Turner Prize, you want it to be a good one.
