Although not often enough because we don’t fund transit so people do “need” cars.

Exactly. Would it have been so hard to ask a few friends and neighbors discreetly? Or call a church/community organization if they know of someone who needs help?
It’s less the broken hip and more everything associated with being elderly and falling. I say this as middle aged person with MS. It would suck if I fell and broke my hip, but it wouldn’t be the same as if my 93 year old Grandma did. She’s healthy, but at a point that she has less “bounce back.”
For me it’s a seeming lack of actual serious remorse. There is a “boys will be boys” attitude and not a “I failed profoundly as a person and must live with that.”
He’ll always be Capt. Von Trapp to me. :-)
The Root and a handful of other places are the only ones where I read the comments. Otherwise I want to throw things.
It’s a huge part of it!
Proud to say Mayor Carter and I share an Alma mater. Also kind of amazed the citizens of St. Paul aren’t holding his degree in public policy against him.
So much this. Lots of my colleagues work from home. But the ones who do it and are trying to watch their kids on a regular basis make me nuts. Don’t make me have a meeting with you while you are driving car pool.
These companies also exploit some off the invetiable crappiness that comes from wrangling unappreciative small children. There are lots of small rewards and positive strokes. That’s the thing that keeps some women who know they are just breaking even in it.
This one is pretty good: https://www.vox.com/2016/5/12/11577466/multilevel-marketing. That author’s original Christianity Today article was better, but it’s behind a paywall. What I thought was interesting was how the original article focused on wanting some kind of tangible achievement that being a SAHM doesn’t give…
Is there any job he could do that you wouldn’t attack him for?
Slash fanfic is a whole other dimension.
Not to discount homophobia and general purtinanism, but changing the way we market celebrities as potential imaginary love interests is definitely a part of it. It’s a human thing to be mildly disappointed when you discover someone you are attracted to has an orientation which means it’s not mutual. So as long as we…
Frances Bean is what I remember from hearing about Kurt Cobain’s death. The DJ on my college radio station when I heard the news said something (I don’t remember exactly what) tender about her losing her father as a toddler. Of course she doesn’t remember him. It’s pretty rare to have memories that young.
This predates W by a century or more. English as the official language has a long stories racist history. It breaks out occasionally like a disease.
Because gender is a key part of it. It’s not just men being jerks while explaining. It’s men being jerks while explaining because they are unable to acknowledge women as experienced or knowledgeable. Most of what is mentioned in this article is jerk behavior.
Not all condescending behavior is mansplaining. It’s obnoxious, but not particularly gendered. What is particularly gendered is men who can’t wrap their head around the fact that a woman has expertise or credentials in an area. It’s the guy who feels the need to explain to me “how Washington really works” based on his…
And lots of the people who did turn out ok who got spankings and turned out ok got a handful of swats on the butt for things like running in front of car. That’s more like turning out ok because your parents weren’t perfect.
Which really should be “Everyone’s a bit prejudiced and occasionally is guilty of using stereotypes.” That’s completely true, but not the same thing as structural racism.
