I just use the VPN server that came with my Synology NAS. It supports the three main VPN protocols - PPTP, OpenVPN, or L2TP/IPSec. Seems to work pretty well.

You’re right, but it’s the way Millennials speak - they hyperbolize and exaggerate everything they say: “Best such and such EVER!” “AWESOME!” “AMAZING!” “LITERALLY!”

It can accentuate, but it can also be horribly distracting. I’m a bird photographer, and always try to shoot “through” my subject to frame up and compose an interesting background too. The “bokeh fetish” people have these days is way overrated and often distracting. If I had to choose I would take a tack sharp photo

EXACTLY! Whenever I buy glass (about once per year), I never go slower than f/4. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with buying a wide lens and then narrowing it, but you can go wrong with a narrow lens and get ‘stuck’ wishing you had more aperture to play with.

I’m a Canon dude, so I can’t speak for the other brands, but I have found I shoot so much better on aperture priority, and let the camera choose shutter speed and ISO on its own. My wife is all shutter speed priority (Canon calls it “time priority”), and hers are equally good. So yeah, I agree, and will add that it’s

I watch it just for Phil and Lem. Their interplay and pathetic attempts at sycophancy are a riot. Not to mention I’ve worked for companies just like Veridian Dynamics, complete with inept management, horrible marketing ideas, and R&D spending that it beyond wasted. When they cancelled that show a part of me died.

Osmodious, I miss building PCs! I built my own ATX towers from 1996 through 2009, using tax refunds the whole way, with a new machine on average every two to three years, depending on where the technology went. It was so much fun back then. These days I am a bit older, so I’ll usually buy a barebones NUC or something

Thorin, great article. I always appreciate your stuff, especially on the Pi, which I also find to be a strange mix of amusement and discouragement, all packed within an hour or two of finger-crossing, nail-biting, and finally... relief. I consider DIY Pi-ing to be an extension of my early 1980s pre-teen obsessions

What irks the shit out of me are these morons who walk around with an unleashed dog, and then when their dog runs over to mine, they yell out “Oh, don’t worry, he’s a good boy!” and as I’m scooping my dog up, who I trained to be defensive around others (because of idiots), I shout “Mine is NOT a good boy, and will rip

Napalm death

hoopswalt nailed it. I’m a finance executive with over 20 years of experience and I can attest to the idiocy of the “one page resume,” extremely predictable questions like “what’s your biggest weakness,” etc. Personally I always like situational questions; ones that begin with “Tell me about a time when you...” Or I

How do you do that? I’m on a Moto X Pure running Android 6 and I don’t see that option. DO WANT!

Farting on a flight is my contribution to flying in coach. Makes the term “human cattle” a bit more literal.

You’d probably find offense to her holding a goddamn parade too. Realize no matter what she does, you’ll hate it.

Let’s just drop the USD denomination and switch to iPhone equivalents. Can someone help me with the iPhone to Android conversion?

Works great as a protectant for rifles and shotguns too. Keeps the water from ruining the metal and saturating the wood.

My dog can eat anything. I have video proof. It’s more a question of what they SHOULD or SHOULD NOT eat, not what they CAN or CANNOT eat.

Music with deep bass boosts confidence??? I find it irritating, demotivating, and obnoxious.
