Yep, I’ve worked in bars where there were known loudmouth deadbeat creep types who’d come around, and we knew not to serve them. Didn’t have to have a reason, it wasn’t discrimination based on their membership in a protected class, it was that they personally had shown themselves to be horrible people, and we had no…
These stories, Hickibee, Miller et al (which I am living for) make me think of stories I read a long time ago about life in Paris after the invasion.
I think while it is false equivalence, it’s false equivalence in our favor. This is a single asshole being denied service after her side spent years fighting for the right to discriminate. It’s the classic “but I didn’t know it meant they could discriminate against me!”
“I am still amazed at the logical hoops right-wingers had to jump through to be offended by”
That’s on you, buddy. There are no hoops or conscious action of any kind. They are told to be offended, and so they are.
I am still amazed at the logical hoops right-wingers had to jump through to be offended by Michelle Wolfe’s joke about Sarah Sanders’ appearance. She complimented her eye makeup! Ooh what a sick burn
Re: Sanders being asked to leave the restaurant,
‘beshitted’ is just a beautiful turn of phrase
A lot of things corporately owned act as de facto public squares. Anything that makes that corp look bad gets chopped for fear of profit or prestige loss; the civil right of the speakers to free speech is not considered. I love that Simon points out that the explanation/why of his suspension was not forthcoming, and…
That’s the most cogent summary I’ve ever read of the two sides of the aisle.
The one thing everyone on the right can agree on is that they hate those fucking people on the left and want them to eat shit.
To be fair, there is a bit more nuance than Chomsky’s otherwise pithy summary allows, and as you imply the GOP is basically a white supremacist party now, particularly under Trump (thankfully the US Constitution prevents the government from ever going full fascist, irrespective of POTUS).
To be fair, the GOP is still manifestly worse than the Democratic Party on many social issues, particularly women’s reproductive rights, gun control and immigration. The Democratic Party’s position is still often shit, but the GOP’s is that much worse.
I’m always impressed at how well we can fight ourselves. You’d think we’ve had enough practice that we could maybe start taking that fight to those who are actually driving us off the fucking cliff, but apparently not. By the way...I’m curious about this donut offer and it might sway which group of fellow progressives…
Because modern third parties are going about things in the stupidest way possible.
I think the point is that you’re not going to break it immediately on a presidential level. You need a longer, grassroots movement. Get a few third party candidates into congress, senate, governor positions, etc.
I hate the two-party system, and it’s also stupid for people to vote third party as it stands today. Those aren’t incompatible thoughts. Third parties are simply not viable in a winner-takes-all system. This merely splits the vote (look at why Democrats in California were afraid this latest primary when it had too…
The cutting of “THAT’S IT! BACK TO WINNIPEG!” in syndication should qualify as a war crime.
They make a great case for “Bart vs. Australia” but I might still like “Bart On The Road” better. Now are you gentlemen going to buy some wigs, or ain’cha?
