I guess I don’t really understand what “making sure the jokes are aimed at the right people” means, but I find John Mulaney funny and Gervais...not.

Um, Stephen Merchant is the reason the office is great, first of all.
The thing about fuckers like Gervais, Chapelle, John Cleese, Rob Schneider, Tim Allen, and others that are always spouting this bullshit about “cancel culture” and “wokeness”, is that their whole schtick is “We should be allowed to joke and mock anything, everything, all the things, without limits”. And then they the…
I think the UK The Office worked well because you do see Brent begin to wake up in the final moments of the final episode. By telling Finch to go to hell, he’s essentially realizing that seeking approval through punching down is an empty existence. I would bet anything that was a Merchant suggestion, not a Gervais…
The person Garvais reminds me of more than anyone these days is Finch, the ultimate villain of ‘The Office’. A pseudo-intellectual thug who expects everyone to find him funny and charmingly transgressive, then retaliates with cruelty if they don’t.
He wasn’t exactly a villain; he didn’t make crass and racist jokes because he was ideologically driven. David Brent tells jokes because he just wants people to like him, and he often knows when he’s crossing a line.
This cancellation for a tax break business seems less like burning down one’s own home for an insurance payout, and more like a landlord burning down tenants’ homes for the insurance payouts.
I don’t know what kind of evidence her defense presented during her trial, but reading about the case earlier today, I can’t imagine voting to convict had I been on the jury.

No. The first one made me think that Todd Phillips had seen some old Scorsese movies and thought to himself “Gee, what if I just did that but took out all the parts where I actually say anything?”
That’s true. For all their flaws, the Anniversary specials were very watchable. I was always entertained, and never bored.
As opposed to Chibnall, who was like “What if Broadchurch had aliens?”
Davies is cheesy, but Doctor Who is cheesy. That’s part of the appeal! Turning it into a serious prestige drama misses the…
This is the second time today I’ve sped-read that Robert Pattinson news item and it’s also the second time I’ve momentarily thought there’s some kind of tear in the fictional world/real world barrier and Edward from Twilight and Suki from True Blood have hooked up. Probably doesn’t help that I have no idea what…
Biden boot licking? Milano sounds like an AWFUL co-star...but hyping DEMOCRACY when we have fascism knocking US ALL TF OUT...seems PRETTY self-perserving at this point.
Ah yes, nothing quite so punk rock as sucking up to a powerful man who wants to concentrate wealth in the hands of the powerful and fuck over marginalized groups.
“Learn to Code” - A phrase almost exclusively uttered by people who either: 1) can barely navigate an iPhone settings menu or 2) can technically code, but only ever submit garbage that has to be cleaned up or discarded by people who are actually good at coding.
So happy right now! Mazel tov!
