Well, nothing changes the fact that it’s underfunded and commuters are under charged. There is not enough money generated from ticket sales to support general labor and maintenance. Private or not the fare needs to go up. 

People have overly high expectations for the 21st century thinking nothing can ever go wrong with a transit system that’s under funded due to commuters being undercharged. Have your cake and eat it too. 

Obviously the problem is nobody is willing to pay the actual cost to riding the MTA. Ticket fares are too low to cover general labor and maintenance. Yet no one hesitates to complain about the outcome...

Then stop using oil. It’s not just the shareholders. It’s the customers. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to triple the cost to heat your home this winter.
