THAT FACE

Yup pretty much except it’s in the mountains, the people don’t even pretend to be nice, and instead of being confined into factory farms the cows get to wander where they please and pretty much do whatever they please.

Partially, yes, it is xenophobia (and I don’t think that anyone can seriously argue that Switzerland doesn’t have a massive problem when it comes to attitudes like that). And yeah, some of the local opposition to her is probably xenophobic in nature as well.

But that’s not how her neighbors view it, I bet. To a lot of people if you aren’t born and raised in Switzerland by Swiss parents who themselves were raised in Switzerland by Swiss parents (and so on and so on) you will never ever really be Swiss. You will always be an outsider.

Yeah I bet her describing Switzerland as her home (even though for all intents and purposes it is) reeeeeally pissed off a lot of her neighbors... I had family who lived in Switzerland for decades and were still seen as outsiders. And that was in a big city; I imagine it’s probably much worse in a small town.

From what I remember, Switzerland has a weird “triple citizenship” thingie where you’re technically a citizen of your municipality and canton in addition to being a citizen of the confederation overall... it may be that she was granted the other two citizenships but not the municipal one?

The town is probably hoping that if they deny her a passport they’ll be able to deport her...

Oh gosh I’m sorry that happened to you...

As I think I’ve mentioned in the past I’ve been working very hard to lose weight over the past few months but only managed to lose about 9 or 10 lbs since last summer (thanks PCOS!). Of course I quickly gained almost all of it back over the holidays when I was visiting my parents, so now I’m quite discouraged and feel

I have life insurance now! Who has life insurance but ~ real adults ~ I ask you?

L.L. Bean has always worked well for me shirt-wise, and for shoes I would check out Zappos! I got a really lovely pair of Lauren Ralph Lauren pumps from there a while ago that are comfy (for heels) and working really well.

Something that helps me cut back on drinking is to use, say, a wine glass to drink my juice/ice water/soda instead of wine... I’m going through the motions, but not actually drinking any alcohol. It really does help with the cravings.

Cole Haan makes some really lovely bags that cost less than that, and I think that they do have some stores in Canada.

I would estimate that at least a third of those copies went to libraries... this is the only version (annotated or otherwise) of Mein Kampf available in Germany, so every library will want want (university libraries will probably buy several copies each). And the rest were likely sold to history buffs, people

I know this is a late response (haven’t been checking jez so much, but... I apologize if I gave the wrong impression, I certainly wasn’t trying to blame you or accuse you of anything. I definitely agree that a lot of the cultural/legal response to HIV aid homophobic and racist in nature, and that’s a problem. I think

Thanks!

Planning on having a lovely anti-social NYE... just me, a glass that can fit an entire bottle of wine, more Chinese food than one person can possibly eat, and Civ V.

Would you mind reminding me what the name of your easy store is? I wrote it down somewhere but can’t seem to find it!

Considering that I still have some lung issues thanks to a childhood bout with the flu (the real flu, not the minor infections colloquially referred to as “the flu”), believe me, I would be PERFECTLY fine with legal consequences for those who are diagnosed with serious communicable diseases and don’t take proper

In New Jersey the knowing transmission of any STD is a felony, as it is in I believe Washington state. I’m not denying that many of the laws regarding HIV have a homophobic past, and that desperately needs to be fixed and dealt with, but I do think that knowing transmission of disease ought to be a crime.
