Ned Flanders has had to deal with the death of his wife among other things.
Compared to Troy McClure or comic book guys idiotic arc, that doesn't even compare

forgets Ned Flanders
forgets Edna Krabbabel both had more character development than Troy McClure or Comic Book guy and arguably a few others
