I see the logic in that. I've noticed large groups of people do order a lot AND usually don't tip. I've seen groups of near 20 people in restaurants pay cash for everything and give the server nothing. Just because you made the restaurant more money does not mean the server gets to see any of it.

Wrong, in the US people that usually get tipped make more money with tips then if they made minimum wage and no tips. If you ever come to the US your service staff will hate you for not tipping as it very much is normal.
