That’s so sweet. I used to be really cynical about public celebrations like this, when I was younger and dumber. But I’ve realized how important it is to savor moments like this in public life. Things don’t always go our way. We shouldn’t take it for granted when they do.

There’s another point that I think is worth looking at (and this goes for ANY situation where men are asked to be allies and speak up against behavior that dehumanizes women) I absolutely agree that it’s hard.

I was going to add, that even if they cleaned up and worked on themselves; I think the reason that women don’t respond to them is because we are ultra sensitive to possible danger from men so that we can pick up nonverbal cues of anger and hostility.  We know know when men hate us.  And we want nothing to do with them.

They really are sweethearts. Mine is a 9 year old ridgeback and (I think) lab mix that I adopted when she was a 25 lb pup. At the time, I asked the lady at the shelter how big she thought she would get when full grown. She said, “oh...maybe fourty-five pounds.”
